...and I realised that I'll need another patchbay too. Will get another Behringer one - they're actually really good. Plenty of Behringer stuff is very good build quality, but obvs the mixers are still not. Still, they're half the price of equivalents, so what can I expect? The flip side is it's good to know my K2 works properly now.

Diddled around and put my K2 in one of those 3-tier stands, waiting to get Neutron + Proton to fill it up. Interestingly I found that I have a quiet channel on my mixer. Previously I thought my K2 was a bit broken, as its output was ridiculously quiet - could only hear it properly with max outputs, mixer channel up full (above zero) and everything else in the chain maxed out. So when I plugged the K2 back in after fixing it to the rack, I patched it to a different channel because the old lead didn't reach the one it was on. Cranked everything up as I knew the K2 would be silly quiet...and nearly blew my fkn ears out and the mixer channel. Meanwhile I'd patched the Wasp into channel 3, which was where the K2 used to be and it was very quiet - and I know the Wasp is fully working. I'll need to remember that channel, but of course I won't and I'll do the same again next time I use it. There's no attenuation button or anything that I could have accidentally stuffed up, must just be a dud channel. TBH it doesn't surprise me as it's a Behringer mixer, so I don't expect those to be amazing, which of course it's not. When I build my new studio I'll get a better and bigger mixer, probably 24 channel...

Sat myself down in front of a mic with an acoustic guitar for the first time in about 7 years.
At first the mic was distorting, though I couldn't see anything on my external pre-amp, compressor, or in Logic's settings. I was going to switch out the mic, unplugged it, then decided to plug it back in. It works, yay! My Guild jumbo was coming in loud and clear.
I am working on a song for my Missus, that I've had the music for around a few years.
Logic has a 'free tempo' record option, which I am using for the first time. It is liberating not to play to a click track. Recorded a basic rhythm, then added an Addictive Drums midi loop, and it synchronized just fine, though the end product may need a bit of fine tuning.

Monkeying around with the new beta of Bitwig 6 that came out today.
Looks good so far though I only seem to get the global scale working with the KeyFilter+ plugin, not the others that claim to let you enable it.

Recorded a thing, using Multimod to turn Marbles into really glitchy psudo-sequences, and highpass filters with resonance to generate envelopes from those "pitch" changes. It is the most stereotypically West Coast, bleep-bloop, "how do I make a Krell patch?" thing I have done in quite some time

Right now I am checking Pamella's Pro Workout to confirm that a 7/4 time is "x4" with a euclidean steps of 7 and I am trying various shapes into the envelope in of Bastl Crust to figure out what speed modifier, width, and Phase make good patterns of closed to open hi hat sounds.
Very happy I can sync in this time. There is a slight delay from Pam Sync to the triggered sound, but it's easily fixed by cutting a few 1/10's of a second off the start.
I've got a level of 8% to a triangle wave for a good decay modulation. Still haven't perfected the speed of the wave for the best pulsating hi hat sound. Probably best to stick to 4/4 for modulations I guess.

Just watched that video, and about to download them. I passed on doing anything for iteration 2, as I felt like I was kind-of 'cheating' or sort-of an "imposter syndrome" thing as I don't have that module. But, now I'm over that, and will screw around with these two reels as I see fit, and post my sequential experiment(s) as intended, on soundcloud.vurt wrote: Fri Aug 29, 2025 8:29 pm ran through the iteration 2 reels, trying to get some inspiration for iteration 3...

it's been interesting hearing how the same material can inspire so many different things.
it would be cool to hear more than a few seconds from each of us though
im wondering if that will be the next stage? use the onimatipaea to create a whole piece?
although that could result in 100 entries at 2 mins each and that's a video walker doesn't want to edit

Finished an entry for another sound design challenge. First time finishing something DaVinci Resolve, so lots of tutorials along the way for a quick take.
All sounds created from a printer printing paper, and the directive was to get a robot to the dance floor, make them dance, and then malfunction.

Ah, I love Tim's challenges. Brilliant guy. I spaced on following up on this one. Good job!elxsound wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 3:32 am Finished an entry for another sound design challenge. First time finishing something DaVinci Resolve, so lots of tutorials along the way for a quick take.

1) Thank you, that's very kind of you.vurt wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 2:19 am1) well, whatever you do, i look forward to it.Shabdahbriah wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 2:33 amJust watched that video, and about to download them. 2) Indeed. The diversity of 'entries' is really fun, and quite inspiring.
3) Yes. That's part of why I want to do full reels. So I plan on doing just shy of 3-minutes for each compilation ('MOD' of mine), and posting that on soundcloud, and a copy of that as a reel on that free place (freesound?). I think I may stick 'markers' at the transition points between 'samples' used in the making of the reel, also, just to make it easier for users to skip through it.
4) That was literally my first thought when I started reading that list, but then it got kinda convoluted/complicated (IIRC), like "the gleeful squeals of flying pigs", so maybe... no.
5) Exactly.

When I was in the audio program at school, we frequently got these kinds of prompts in the music production class. It was always fun to find a creative approach to some of the more mundane prompts. I still do that kind of thing on my own but it would be fun to participate in some of these sound design challenges. I don't always have time to hit a deadline but it would be fun just to give it a shot.

I missed the last one with the laser guns. I thought that would have been a fun one, but ran out of time until the day before the deadline and realized I was exhausted.Shabdahbriah wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 4:49 pmAh, I love Tim's challenges. I’m probably going to drop after tonight. Another crazy whirlwind of the last 2 weeks. It’s been a blur! These are fun and agreed, brilliant guy always willing to share info, which is appreciated.

These pop up from time to time, and he’s loose on deadlines, partly because he’s in New Zealand and then I think it’s meant to be more fun, and not so much a contest.justin3am wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 5:22 pmThat's great dude!elxsound wrote: Mon Sep 01, 2025 3:32 am Finished an entry for another sound design challenge. I love seeing what people do with all the different takes. All same source material but wildly different results.
Definitely worth following but I can shoot a PM if there’s another one. It’s always more fun with more people.
