I use to use cakewalk when it was a dos program and I used it as a windows 3.1 midi sequencer also. I been using cubase for 10-15 years now. I had to download a copy the demo of sonar to check it out after all the talk about it here and I have to say. Uhgg that thing looks awful.
It is kludgy looking and isnt well refined like cubasesx is. It looks like a bad rip off of cubase. From what I been able to test so far it looks like it works. I hav'nt figured out how to get vst plugs to work with the demo so I can see how they act in sonar. I guess people love there choices.
