My guess is that the event listeners for the keyboard shortcuts would be grouped together in the code (maybe in different sections for each major component), so it shouldn't be too hard for the programmers to make a list.

While they're at it, maybe they could produce a consolidated list of shortcuts to include as a page in the helpfile.

God, how long have we been asking for that! Krim made a sticky thread on the forum [out of frustration, I suspect] that everyone can add to but that is about as far as it has got.
Vurt, that time signature thing is a royal PITA, as is th efact that the Mixer is now hidden by default. These are just the kinds of things I work so hard to keep out of ORION, things that just get in the f**king way of doing my work. So now I can no longer just hit CTRL+N and start working, I either have to go and look for a default song or deal with a dialog and then unhide the Mixer. I mean, who the f**k can work without the Mixer? And does anyone really believe that more than 50% of projects in ORION are in any time signature other than 4/4? Puh-leeeese!

Yep ... the one thing i don't like so far too.
No need for that box to pop up default and the mixer should load.
Good call, surely that can be ditched?

So what is workflow about, if its not about the smoothest possible experience? I now have to deal with things that I previously didn't have to. Sure, they are small things but there is no way around them. From where I sit it goes against mos tof the other workflow enhancements. Why make some things easier and other things harder? It makes no sense and I don't recall either thing being asked for by anyone.

can you modify your orion shortcut to open your default template like the old way you are used to?

When I first open ORION I get my default song anyway, although I never had to have a default song before. Its when I am doing one thing and want to quickly try out something else that it becomes annoying. I'm sure I will get used to it and it won't be such an issue, its mostly that I trip over it ever time right now because its different to how it used to be. I would happilt pu tup with these things if I could see some sense in them being that way but neither thing seems warranted.

Something interesting about Orion's mixer is that I'm not entirely sure what the 'correct' volume should be.

When inserting an instrument and playing, it nearly always goes into the red (> 0dB) even on, say, 64 velocity.

The Mixer entry is already set to -12dB by default, and on the end, the Master mixer is itself set to a further -12dB by default.

Where does the output volume (at the top) fit into this? By default things seem to be clipping, and yet there is no clipping distortion on the output.

I'm not being pissy here, just genuinely curious about what these values are meant to represent? Even the demo songs seem to be permanently in the red during playback.

Post

Use your ears. Turn your master (in top bar) down, keep levels low and turn your speakers up. No clipping! Once your done use CE, SF or something to mormalize the levels.

I really like the toggle switrches for mixer, master and playlist. I always opened the playlist, had a play around then closed it. You don't have to use them them guys!!

I've always wondered that myself?? Why the master output is set so hot by default... I always have to adjust it right off, or set a default template (Hmmm maybe that's the idea)

The thing is that the mixer channels are 32 bit, therefore they have virtually unlimited headroom. I have always maintained that level meters have no relevance but I was continually shouted down by idiots who didn't know any better. Think of them more as activity meters and you will sleep better. The main volume, on the main toolbar, definitely does have its limitations so you need to be careful with it. As a rule [I have 12" but I don't use it as a rule], I try to keep those main meters completely out of the red. I record to 32 bit so it makes no difference to output quality, you just need to get over your hardware prejudice about levels vs noise. I generally keep my Master level [in the master section], somewhere between -20 and -25 dB, and my main level [on the main toolbar] is usally between 12 and 16 [but you need one of my skins to see those values].

Cool, I settled for about 16 on the toolbar and just made sure the master section wasn't going too crazy. I actually had to push the ranges pretty high to get anywhere near distortion. The reason I was cautious is that apps like Sonar/eXT literally start clipping when the meter hits the top of the scale. Seems Orion is a bit more generous with headroom on that front.
