well, thats cause the majority of SE stuff sucks, and people know it. FL however, does not. And most people know that. using delphi to code is much different than using SE, dont bother.

There's nothing voodoo or other magic bullshit, it's just the only thinkable choice for real professional work. Of course it's ok to use some shareware stuff or PT clones like Cubase and the rest for home studios or other stuff where sound quality does not matter, but for example in the film industry where transparencies are really important, forget the little toys.

It's Pro Tools if you want to stay with the business, that's why they call it Pro Tools instead of some funny el cheapo name.
I am a professional in the sense that I make my living writing music. I wrote the score (and did a foley track) for the documentary film "Troop 1500" entirely in FLStudio, and am now working on a score for the film "Body of War" which will also be recorded, sequenced, and mixed in FLStudio.
The producer of "Body of War", Phil Donahue, hired me for my good work on "Troop 1500". Funny, he couldn't have cared less what software I used, it never came up in conversation.
.jon, your lack of experience is glaring.
(By the way, a short plug for "Body of War", a beautiful film about a young man who enlisted on September 13th 2001. He was sent to Iraq, shot on his fifth day there- the bullet severed his spine. The film is about his long recovery and subsequent anti-war activism. It's moving, hopeful, and something all Americans need to see. Please watch for it. It appears most likely at this point it will be aired on HBO.)

The word "professional" seems to be used in an inflamatory way from time to time.

Any modern recording software, used in conjunction with decent audio hardware, is capableof producing professional results if used with a professional level of skill and experience.

However, some software is specifically designed with a feature set geared towards the needs of specific professionals (e.g. the movie scoring features in Digital Performer, hardware integration, certain file types such as Broadcast .wav, etc). Professionals working within those special fields will benefit from the feature-set those programmes offer.

Other software is more specifically designed for composers and performing musicians (e.g. Ableton Live) or home users (e.g. most of the stuff regularly discussed on this forum). It's no less *professional*, but is designed with slightly different users or contexts in mind.

Moving on...

If you promise Tom Cruise isn't in it, I might concider watching it if it was showing on some paytv near me...

And the pipe organ stop intended to imitate their sound is a fine stop indeed (aka Cromorne, Krummhorn). Really cuts through a mix... erm, a registration rather.

As for myspace user crombones -- his/her/its page wouldn't come up on my slow dial-up line. Ah well.

Tom Cruise, in an HBO movie? Not gonna happen. He requires $40M per picture to placate his Scientologist masters.

Alright you can all stop trolling this fine thread now, nobody believes you believed my bullshit and anywayz Pro Toollzzz is the roxxxor!!111!!

Transparencies for teh win!

The producer of "Body of War", Phil Donahue, hired me for my good work on "Troop 1500".
Congratulations, Cordelia! Both seem to be interesting titles. Troop 1500 was shown on Tampere Film Festival last year, but not on our (DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival).

I hope Body of War makes an impact. Strange coincidence but the name Donahue is connected with Fog of War as well, Peter only instead of Phil. We have an Errol Morris retro this year, and Iraq looks like a case of history repeating itself, only uglier.

Wish you success, making music to a documentary is my secret dream 8)

(maybe I'll make it some day if I get Pro Tolllzzz ;-) )

A 13 page (thus far) slow frame rate version of Big Brother. Wow.

Is it always like this in 'Hosts'?
