The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I know you were not knocking them and i was just fooling around plus saying get some active jobs in one of your many guitars just for the ride and spandex momentssusiwong wrote:Hi Dean,NEKRO.MACHINE wrote:@susiwong you know active pickups were made with souless and totally un-magical, hot output but not very dynamic in nature moron's like me in mindHowever to be fair the lastest range of EMG's (the X-Series) and the SD (Blackout range) have the feel of passive pickups nailed quite well (Neither touches say my scatterwound by hand Bare Knuckle Warpig passive bucker's though but it works in a good way my friend). I think if you get the chance to test drive a model of guitar to your taste with the EMG Xs and also the SD Blackouts in then go for it if you have not IMHO you might be surprised but of course the classic YMMV applies here for sure
sorry, misunderstanding !
This one was not against hot or active pickups per se, not one of my usual brainless attacks against the Evil Empire Of Metal, no, I was talking about a very real phenomenon unique to passive guitars:
There is a wonderful interaction between e.g. a passive Gibson (sorry Hink !) and a great simple input stage (good vintage-style amps, our Klons have that, too).![]()
Ideally without treble bleeds, you can pull a rainbow of tones out of that simple combination by playing with the guitar's controls and mixing pickups - the resonating circuit gets changed and it's more than the sum of the parts - simply wow !![]()
Active circuits can't do this - by design.
They have different strenghs, I have a few active guitars which sound great, and behave well on stage.
Back to sim-hating !

yes back onto amp sim despise
On topic that Digidesign Eleven Rack which Justin uses/mentioned, Well they are very convincing and are clever in the way they change the high-impedance automatically - Could be one of the best DIs i have ever used/tried, maybe they might do Eleven DI without the DSP engine...I would have one of them if they did (AVID probably will not)

do you want to tell what your chain is ?musicbird wrote:I make my own chains of guitar amps with impulse responses, stomps etc. and never got that problem. I don't use Amplitube or Guitar Rig because the tone still isn't there compared to some free amp sim heads.

What this thread needs is a poll, with just YES and NO as options. Now that will settle it once and for all...

If you poll YES that you hate them, then you are not allowed to comment on another amp sim thread again
, whether you hate it or in fact finally like it. We will let you bask in the glow of your warm tube amp and hardware combination, and you will never have to be bothered to express your opinion or suggestion because you are above everyone else using a real amp.

my boogie can be heard 'above' most sims, hell it can be heard above most cars, harleys, tanks, howitzers, fighter jets, a-bombs and even some womenmetalifuxx wrote: because you are above everyone else using a real amp.

I'll speak up as a fan of both.
Live I pull out my Mesa roadster. Love that amp. Fills a freakin' room.
Recording, though? This is where amp sims come in for me. There's an art to recording guitar that I can't claim to understand. I don't have the time, nor the patience for it. Aside from that, I don't have a good room to do it in, and I don't have charitable enough neighbors to crank my boogie and lay down a few tracks.
Amp sims allow me to get better results than I could get in the real world, given my circumstances. Sure, I'd love to be able to mic up my guitar and amp in a good tracking room in order to get stuff down, but it's just not practical. Aside from that, amp simps completely remove the mic placement/setup/headaches that get in between creativity and an actual recording.
My POD HD does well enough for my needs. Good enough for the girls I go out with. The XT/X3 series was not, and my recently acquired copy of guitar rig from komplete 7 still has some proving to do.

Well, the demo for TH2 isn't kosher (been confirmed to have the volume drop) so unfortunately I couldn't take it anymore and ditched it. EDIT, I'm looking into the other now...though they don't look to be x64.
