Well, no fun with trying to use RC as a VST inside Cubase 7.5 here - completely locks up Cubase/Windows. Have to hard re-boot to get out of it.

I had ticked the box 'Embed VST in host app window' (or whatever the words are) in the Miscellaneous preferences; the tooltip says this is an experimental mode..! Ok, so then I moved the RapidComposer.dll from install location into my VST plugins folder. Launched Cubase, tried to add RC to the Instruments Rack and that's where it locked i.e. it wouldn't even load up into the app. This was a new clean, empty project. Task Manager will not kill the process.

I will try putting the VST window setting back to normal and see what happens. All is fine running RC in standalone mode by the way.

BTW - I did grab the beta build Attila, as you suggested in another post. But with this 'freezing' happening, thought I'd continue to stick with the released edition for now.

For future reference, if I run this beta build as an updater, it won't update the *.dll where it is now, will it...? So I'm assuming it places a new *.dll at the normal install location (C:\program files\RapidComposer) that I then have to move manually. Do you think it worth a try, at resolving the 'freezing' problem..?

Ho hum..

I'm away from my studio for the weekend. I have run one of the 2.5 versions in Cubase 7.5 without problems ... but I never tried to setup the embedding.

I'll try to remember to take a look on Monday using the latest version.
Help! I've fallen up and can't get down!

Yes, the dll will be installed in its normal location so you will have to copy and paste to your preferred location where your DAW scans.

Yes, it is worth it to install the latest update. Attila is very diligent at resolving issues; not to say that the bug you found has been addressed, but other issues may have been.

Personally I prefer to run RC standalone and pipe it to my DAW's (midi over LAN, etc.) I find the VST more limiting to my work and Cubase (6) can be fickle (at best :hihi: - sometimes no probs and others, well, you know ;))

Yes, please, can you check if the latest beta works with Cubase 7.5? I don't know what happened because several people used the v2.5 plug-in in Cubase 7.5 successfully. :?

Thanks,
Attila

Thanks yellukhan!
A new beta is available with the fix, and the new Velocity variation requested by dsan, which allows you to set note on velocities using an envelope (when added to a track).

Excellent addition finally (I mean basic Velocity variation :)!
I also wondered why it was not included yet in variations tools considering that it looked very easy to implement (IMHO). It is especially useful when working with numerous custom phrases (thanx again, Yellukhan, for showing how to creatively use and abuse classics :).
+ Short request/question for Attila: I would like to ask you - is it possible somehow to fix Chord palette window in such a way that it store/memorize last chosen parameters (say, in Palette->Layout)?
Best regards,
T.

Darn, Im finding the current version 2.55 to be really crashy again.
My crashes were sorted in the last version and RC was really stable
Dont know if I can be bothered to go through all this again trying to figure out the causes :(

Thanks for the feedback dsan - understood,

I think in future I will only use RC in standalone mode too; I did update to the latest beta (2.56b3), and no change. However, I've thought my issues with crash/freeze inside Cubase 7.5 as VSTi (reported above) may simply be due to low memory available. My current system only has 4Gb RAM (32bit Win7). Though Task Manager reports I have 1.8Gb free after I've launched a clean, blank Cubase project.

Hmm...

Cheers,
thebutler

(I'll update my sig asap).

After two days testing of last beta version (2.56b4) unfortunately I have to affirm that "crashing behaviour" become much more frequent. Moreover, the program crashes unexpectedly in different situations, so I even can't throw out most critical reasons for that :(
E.g. it crashed several times after I tried to import various midis (even without showing "midi-import dialog settings"), also it looks like it has some problems with new implemented features - one of my crashes happened after I just tried to remove RandomVelocity generator (previousely used in my "piece")...
Summing up, I suspect that "something went wrong" in new code but, sure, I am not experienced enough to point out what exactly causes such unstable behaviour.
Hoping for some improvements ;)

Sure, I fixed this today. Not just the settings but also the window size won't change when you choose a new chord.

I'll review the changes, thanks!

Oddly enough I am not getting these crashes. I am intentionally trying to crash RC doing what has been decribed in the previous posts.

So this causes me to wonder, are you installing using the method I have suggested?

Here is the post I made about installation method and how it has helped me solve the crash issues I once had:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 8&t=394420

It appears about 7 posts into the thread.

I am hopeful it helps you solve your crashing problems!

Best regards,

Thanks for your universal methodological reminder, dsan, I'm leaving open the possibility of some problems/issues on installation stage, though I didn't quite understand what you meant by 1st iteration ("Unblock the file" - what is it?).
And as far as I remember I ran the installer as Admin (as you adviced).
Anyway, I tend to think that new crashing problems are not (directly) related to installation procedure (though, I would be happy if I am wrong here  )...
So, let's wait a little, may be Attila will identify some hidden glitches :?
And last but not least, - I again greatly appreciate Attila's quick reaction to my chord palette request :tu:
Best regards,
T.

Hi tolstoevsky,
Windows has the "habit" of blocking files when downloaded. To unblock, right click the ".exe" and select properties.

You will find in the lower right corner of the properties window, a notice that Windows has blocked this file, with a button to "Unblock". Click on "Unblock" and then click "Apply" at the bottom of the properties window.

This will allow full install instead of just pieces of the program. Windows does not like certain files written to the HD unless user has given full permissions. This is especially true when UAC is enabled.

Another thought has occurred to me; disabled any virus protection mechanisms. I have Norton 360 on my RC machine and it gives me warning messages when I attempt to run the RC updates.

So, virus protection may be standing in your way of a successful installation.

Be sure to turn virus protection back on when you are finished!

Yes, I agree other devs could take a lesson from Attila's attentiveness and willingness to provide the best software; no doubt! :tu:
