I just realised that that layout is essentially similar to Photosounder's layout: big spectral visualisation/editing area on top with a row (or two) of controls below.Selfik wrote:No problem, you can reward me with a full version now
Anyway right now I'm working on groups (I already have the rectangle selection tool basically done as well as how moving groups works, I just need to deal with modifier keys shift and ctrl), when I'm done with that I'll work on layout and window size, and since it seems people want it so badly I guess I'll make that available in Spline v1.
Which reminds me, I originally designed SplineEQ making sure that it would fit well enough in a 1024x768 window, the lowest common denominator in terms of screen resolution, but what's the common screen resolution for most of you, and also how much of it should SplineEQ's window fill? Just so I might know what it has to be able to fill or what it might be limited to.

I just did something with the beta that I will port to v1.0.x when the final parameters are chosen, I changed the limiter so that it's not a dumb hard limiter but rather a smoother envelope limiter, something like a compressor with an instant attack and a flat sustain (the level is maintained for a while) and a smooth release. The advantage of this is if the output gets too loud (over the limiter's threshold) you won't get a single sample above the threshold but it won't mess up the sound or ever sound too loud.
Right now I need opinions about it (by testing the beta, which you can get a link to if you pm me) and for people to tweak the Debug knob to find the best sustain-release timing. The lower the value the shorter the release and therefore the more it pumps like a compressor, the higher the value the more flat and sustained the volume is, but I don't know for how long you'd want it to be sustained, that's what I need to know. A good way to test is to set the limiter to a good tolerable value (something like -15 dB is good) then push the Overall Gain all the way up and put a sound through it.
Oh also since last beta this one allows you to group bands into groups with the cursor by dragging a rectangle over them.

my resolution is 1280X1024 so it fits in my screen easy.
I do like the limiter a lot better its smoother and clean. and actually does keep the sound fairly well i would suggest something like a 50ms release i find that to be a smooth clean release i set on my limiter that I use and it sounds very smooth.
one thing i notice though is when i tweak the debug knob and move the actual eq band it some times distorts when its limiting and moving but after i stop it goes back to clean. i do like how it does not let any peaks go above its set level though i think its headed in the right direction

What do you mean by a 50ms release? You mean the Debug knob at 0.05?jam92189 wrote:my resolution is 1280X1024 so it fits in my screen easy.

I don't know the what the inner numbers are with the debug knob. personally I use it at like 3-4.A_SN wrote:What do you mean by a 50ms release? You mean the Debug knob at 0.05?jam92189 wrote:my resolution is 1280X1024 so it fits in my screen easy.

I was just saying that on normal limiters 50ms release is usually smooth and wont pump.
but this limiter is not like a normal limiter so I don't know if that would work.
From what i can tell the limiter on this is actually really good as far as how it wont squash the signal. and nothing passes the threshold set. the only time i really hear any distortion. is maybe in the very very start of the limiting when it hits but it never goes above. And the use for it is just so you wont clip your output not to push the volume so I think the debug set to about 3.6 or so is fairly smooth for what its going to be used for.

Just so you know a setting of 3 means a sustain of 3 seconds and a release of 3 seconds. But yeah it does work quite differently since the goal is mostly to try to maintain a steady level.jam92189 wrote:I don't know the what the inner numbers are with the debug knob. personally I use it at like 3-4.A_SN wrote:What do you mean by a 50ms release? okay after using the beta out for a good run on a normal instance i can say that the limiter is way better now I personally like it for when i need to find the frequency to cut out. and i like the new analyzer. the grouping is pretty nice i think and as far as what i have used it for it works very well. the only thing I think could be added is maybe a zoom control. Perhaps there can be a zoom knob added where if it is turned on it makes a little box that you can mess with the size of it and the knob can control how much it zooms by.
Its late so I did not really look over for proper grammar i hope its legible

Alright I just went ahead and released v1.0.9 with the new Limiter. Now can't nobody complain about accidentally hurting their ears/blowing up their speakers. If you used to leave the Limiter at 60 dB I suggest you set it to 0 dB (the new default). I'd still like to hear how it works for you though.

I think the most recent manual (1/1/12?) says to set the limiter to 60 to disable it. Does 0 disable the limiter now? I'm confused.

No it's still the same, if you leave it at 60 dB then the threshold will never be hit so it doesn't do anything. I just suggest that you leave the limiter to 0 dB as to not disable it and have it work when the output signal is supposed to go above 0 dB.antithesist wrote:I think the most recent manual (1/1/12?) says to set the limiter to 60 to disable it. Okay, does the new limiter affect the sound when it's not limiting? Sorry if this has already been covered. I've only recently been taking some time to get friendly with this and I haven't read all the forum posts either (KVR and GS).A_SN wrote:No it's still the same, if you leave it at 60 dB then the threshold will never be hit so it doesn't do anything. Yes it's a permanent link. As for being informed... well what would be your preferred way? You can follow the KVR page for SplineEQ for one thing though, that'll tell you when it's updated.yl wrote:nice...
how do I get the link to the latest (paid) version ?
can I use the old link in my mail ?
also... it would be nice if we can be informed about version updates

a newsletter would be a nice medium..
(I'm on you mailing list as I assume most of the users are)
also some sort of indication on the site as to what's the current/latest version (couldn't find any)
.. great plugin ! keep up the good work !
