Just ordered the update from 6.5 to 7 and thought I would get an immediate download link upon purchase.
Nothing. Just an invoice telling me I paid for it.
So....what do I think of this ? Will I receive a notice that a DVD is coming ? Will I receive a download link with the full upgrade ? I have no idea what to think as there isn't any indication I can see that tells me how I can receive my upgrade.
Am I missing something ?
Thanks for any info...

You will get a package with a couple of DVDs. One is for C7 and then there is some Halion stuff and a bunch of free trials. There is no hard-copy manual. If I remember right from when I upgraded, it gets even sillier: the DVD that comes does not have the full C7 program on it and it downloads the rest from a steinberg server. I really don't understand why one can't have a pure download product as a purchase option (with maybe a discount for avoided physical stuff, transport and admin stuff).

I bought the upgrade from 6.5 to 7 last weekend and got the download link immediately. Did you make sure to choose "download product" in the delivery options? Boxed product is chosen by default.JPTinAshland wrote:Just ordered the update from 6.5 to 7 and thought I would get an immediate download link upon purchase.

You guys have made me feel better about leaving Cubase three years ago. No DVD Installer? Good grief!

Actually, there is a DVD installer that is in the boxed upgrade of Cubase 7, or the download version if you prefer.themuzic wrote:You guys have made me feel better about leaving Cubase three years ago. No DVD Installer? Good grief!
As for leaving a product because it doesn't have a DVD installer - the amazing Zebra 2.5 synth comes only as a download ( no DVD ), and I will never leave it. Best synth ever.
FWIW - I gave up on the mythical Logic Pro X and the overpriced / underpowered Apple Mac route to go with a custom PC and the amazing Cubase 7. Best move I ever made.

I think that depending on where you live, you might or might not have been given an option for a download-only version. During the ordering process, I looked for a download check-box but could not find it. It is not impossible that I was not looking carefully enough, but at the time it seemed like I had no choice in the matter and had to take the boxed version.
As for what was on the DVD in the box: It sure seemed like the installer on the DVD told me that what was on the DVD was only a part of the program and the rest had to be downloaded from Steinberg during the installation process. Again, it was a while ago and my memory might be failing me.

lol, I've been using 6.5 but had a couple of hours to jack around with the latest C7 patch tonight. The mixer is still totally f**ked up. It won't remember its size, position or state. It doesn't work with workspaces. It auto hides areas without you asking it to just because you close and reopen. It sometimes opens with the screen resolution of my main monitor (2560x1600)on my 2nd monitor that is a different size (1920x1200). It does it in a way that makes accessing the main bar impossible and it doesn't respond to the normal windows alt+spacebar trick to move the window.
What a piece of shit.

What a piece of shit.

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I'm using 7.0.4 and can't say I've EVER run into that issue.SJ_Digriz wrote:lol, I've been using 6.5 but had a couple of hours to jack around with the latest C7 patch tonight. He is running two monitors, one of which is at a high resolution and a different size to the other. I suspect that is an atypical useage case and one that the bugs haven't been ironed out ofxphen0m wrote:I'm using 7.0.4 and can't say I've EVER run into that issue.SJ_Digriz wrote:lol, I've been using 6.5 but had a couple of hours to jack around with the latest C7 patch tonight. I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

One thing (the first thing) I don't like about Cubase 7 so far:
The VST Performance/ASIO Load is a LOT higher than when I'd see in Studio One 2 or REAPER. This is with less plugins, too. I see the Steinberg forum is littered with posts about this, with one seeing a Steinberg rep claim they couldn't reproduce it. There's the Steinberg Power Scheme that reduces the ASIO load, but I really have doubts about how safe it is to enable that for long periods of time as the computer would use more power.

Something really seems to have changed with the C7 vst/asio load meter. When I compare the same project in C5.5.3 and C7.0.4, C7 shows much higher meter level readings than C5. I have learned to pretty much ignore this meter.

why focus on ASIO meters? are you having actual performance issues? there are ways to address these.
I don't think you want to expect Cubase to be as lean as REAPER, though.
I would actually advise everyone to ignore the Steinberg forums, it is 'littered' with people that don't know what they're doing.

I have no performance issues. It is more about wondering why they bother creating the meter when it does not appear to give any interesting information (for me). Wondering out loud why it seemed to give me useful information in C5 but appears broken in C7.jancivil wrote:why focus on ASIO meters? are you having actual performance issues? there are ways to address these.

But it is not a big deal, I have come to ignore it and so it goes.

Yeah, it's funny because I don't have any performance issues. It's just kinda bothersome to see.freddemillio wrote:Something really seems to have changed with the C7 vst/asio load meter.
