Sandman - yet another cool new delay that doesn't cost $299

Sandman is deceptively powerful. I love it and will be picking it up soon. Also snagged G8 for Reason, easily the best gate in the Prop shop and I'm finding it useful for all sorts of things one wouldn't expect. The modular flexibility is outstanding.

Hey, thanks! We really love the Rack Extension format and developing for it. When Josh and I made G8, he did a lot of great original research that he continued to pursue. He's wrapping up work on a new Rack Extension, and it's something completely new and exciting.Tronam wrote:Sandman is deceptively powerful. I love it and will be picking it up soon. I love delay plugins. Wow!! What a great plugin and what a great price (even at "full" price)
. Been using the full version of Sandman 1.0.2beta in both Cubase 5.5.3 and Reaper 4.71 using Windows XP SP3 32 bit with no problems. Installation, usage, saving of presets and reloading of project all fine.
Just bought G8 Gate aswell. Another fantastic plugin which will be great for experimenting with.

Wasn't planning on going out this Xmas or New Year anyway.
Thank you Unfiltered Audio

Not true. Waves has also a dedicated Debreather, and it's pretty good. Of course it's more expensive than the G8, unless you wait for a sale, then you can get it for the same price or a little moreTheoM wrote: ... for de breathing in reason, as there is no de breath plugin, ...
And I think there are also others out there, but can't remember...
Not saying which one is better, nor saying G8 is not worth its money

After spending some quality time with it I must say, it actually might be... it does any surgical gating/isolating job I throw at it with precision, and it provides enough unconventional functionality for some seriously weird and experimental stuff as well. How I didn't know about this one until Sandman came along is beyond me, it is indeed a very fine piece of software (sorry for the ot btw, but it had to be said).TheoM wrote:...G8 is simply THE finest noise gate plugin...
The mind boggles.

Well I was pulled in by the sale and grabbed G8 too.
Fingers crossed on the Logic side chain update I guess - I know you guys will add it as soon as you can.
Looking forward to seeing what's coming down the tubes next... Have to say both G8 and Sandman I find quite inspiring to use.
Definitely recommended.

It doesn't work. It's a big deal to me too, but the developers are obviously aware.TheoM wrote:
I haven't bought G8 for logic as i have it for reason and am happy enough with the ear reckon i use in logic. But it's very cheap and it IS good, as i know, so am considering it.
What is the issue? does SC not work at all? this would be critical for me.
IT would also mean the midi isn't working as that's how logic handles midi gating.
Cheers
Here's the reply on the sc:
We're waiting on JUCE to add native sidechain to the other formats. We're hoping that the recent ROLI acquisition speeds up that process. When that happens, we will be adding it to G8 immediately, and releasing it in additional formats when sidechain support is added (VST3, AAX, and RTAS). I have it in my mind that it will be released as G8 1.5 or 2.0 (either way, free update to all existing customers). I'm imagining that, since re-doing the inputs and outputs will probably break compatibility with existing projects.
We didn't realize that JUCE lacked this support for G8 until we were significantly far along in the development process. It seemed like such an obvious thing for a plug-in wrapper to support!

Hi everyone,
Wow! I missed a lot of posts today. My students needed a lot of help today with final projects, so I haven't been at the computer. A few quick points:
-G8 and Sandman have both been tested to successfully work on Windows XP SP3 and higher (instead of just Vista like is mentioned on the website). I will update the site with this new information. We didn't have any computers with XP to test on, and it definitely does not work with SP2.
-Josh and I really appreciate the G8 love. We compiled a 1.1 Release Candidate this morning (adding in Audition Mode and fixing latency reporting, along with adding in true 0 sample latency), and are waiting to hear back whether it fixed one user's bug before proceeding. Expect a release tomorrow or Thursday. The next feature update to G8 will feature variable attack and release slopes, so it will be even more precise. That release won't be until after Sandman 1.1 and Fault, our next VST/AU. I'll start a new G8 thread after 1.1 comes out.
-The Rack Extension version of G8 has an incoming update that makes it true zero-latency, instead of one sample of latency. It's done, but we're facing an upload issue that we're in contact with the Props about.
-G8's sidechain, as posted above, is related to how JUCE handles each format's sidechain capabilities... or, in this case, doesn't handle. There are a few developers on the forum pestering for this functionality. We've tried to be as forthcoming as possible with this deficit, as we realize that it is a complete showstopper for many users. Because of this, we created the DAW compatibility chart on our site, along with a few warnings near the purchase button (and a demo version). So far, we've thankfully had no e-mails complaining about false advertising on that front. Whenever JUCE is updated with this functionality, it is guaranteed to be a free G8 update, since that's a feature that should have been in the 1.0 release.
-Today I received a heads-up about a pirate version of G8 floating around. Josh and I had previously been joking around about how we weren't even popular enough for a torrent, so it was sort of a bittersweet moment for me. We're not going to go through a DMCA request or any of that, since we're currently a two man team, and because I know that I personally used illegitimate software when I was in grade school and early high school (before I had a job!). That being said, please be aware that I'm a student, and Josh has a daughter. I'm currently saving up for a honeymoon in June with my fiancee after our wedding and my graduation. So, if you like our software, please support us and purchase a copy! Our prices are low, and we would like to keep it that way.
-The current sale ends at 10 AM PST tomorrow (December 3rd).

And thank you! I appreciate the report, as that's now three confirmations that XP SP3 32-bit works fine.hesnotthemessiah wrote:I love delay plugins. Wow!! Hey Theo! Thanks for the kind words. As I mention in the above post, the G8 AU is not quite there yet. In the meantime, the upgraded G8 DSP has been ported back into the RE. I'm hoping that the upload bug is fixed shortly.TheoM wrote:Huge fan of unfiltered audio here, have all their stuff for Reason, so to anyone wondering where these guys have been, they started doing RE's afaik. Michael is a top bloke (Hey Mike it's Theo here from the PUF) and their prices are a bit silly cheap.
G8 is simply THE finest noise gate plugin with it's only equal peer being the fab filter, for um, 8x the price. G8 is one of the very few gates i am able to isolate things with with 100% accuracy (it's also the only one i can accurately use for de breathing in reason, as there is no de breath plugin, but this works almost as good as the dedicated izotope one but without the 700ms latency lol).
I for one love the funky "a bit unusual" gui's, and i think i am going to buy the delay for logic, will just make sure the demo plays nice with my system.
Highly recommend supporting this dev
Look forward to seeing more cool stuff!
