Can this software be installed and run as it is abandonware? or do you need installer codes?

At least Vision and Studio Vision latest versions were free from copy protection. But beware they only run on Mac OS 9.Scotty wrote:Can this software be installed and run as it is abandonware? or do you need installer codes?

ie: win3.11 or win95 .. on which it works fabulously + flawlessly..
theres comments from the origijnal software developers on my site that did the windows port from the mac code theyt used a third party translation library to port the code to windows. its not going to be compatible with any + eveyr version of windows..
i would use a vanilla win95 or vanilla win98 install cd if u want to run vision for windows 2.5
if its possible to make it work on XP i challenge someone to prove it. i know there were drivers for the opcode HARDWARE that worked on xp.. but not the software.. not the windows version of vision anyway.
I have a friend who runs it on Windows 7. Anyone else try it?

That is very good news, I have a g4 and an old interface that will run OS 9 native, it should do well given that processors were 400 mhz when this was relaesed and the G4 that I have is running OS 9 at 1ghz.

Is there anyway to run/emulate Studio Vision on a modern system if you have the software? That would be awesome.

You could probably get it to run with one of the OS9 emulators out there. I don't know how well the timing would work, and getting it to interact with a midi interface could be a challenge.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

It has to be the 32 bit version of Windows 7. 16 bit software doesn't run on 64 bit windows, just 32 and 64.How did he get this running on there?ls1xxx wrote:I have a friend who runs it on Windows 7. Anyone else try it?

There's a download link for Pro 2.5 on this page...
http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=278.0
It just installs in Win 3.1 on DOSBox here (Win 10, 64 bit). You probably just need to double click in 32 bit Windows.

while u can run software on hardware emulators + dosBOX applications
this software was originally ported / reprogrammed from the original macintosh version
via a 3rd party software translation library - one of the developers came on my site to relay that info to me himself personally - so thats how i know.... otherwise id have no clue.
he said that it was only active + supported during the time of windows 95 + the original first version of windows 98.. and that there was incompatibilities introduced by microsoft that would render the software unstable if not used on either win95 or win98(original release version not 98SE)
if you intend to use the software with external MIDI equipment, i suggest running it on a PC with win95 or win98 or running it on a real macintosh 68k or POWERPC computer...
if u arent using external MIDI equipment then by all means run it on VM
but what makes me scratch my head everytime i see someone saying they are doing that is::
WTF are u using it for if u dont have an actual hardware MIDI Interface ????

Thanks for setting up the repository. I used to run StudioVision on my Quadra 650 and still have a lot of song files I would like to access. I've installed OS9 inside SheepShaver on my MBP and have downloaded and installed StudioVision 4.5 from your page - thank you, but am getting the 'Error while authorising validation count' message when I try to open it. Is there any way round this?supernova777 wrote:for anyone interested - ive set up a public opcode file repository here: http://www.oldschooldaw.com/opcode (http://www.oldschooldaw.com/opcode)
