BING-[f'ing]-GO!!! Someone's had their coffee. :tu:
But it ends up being the same price so the impact on their wallet is the same....

However if one does not have the discipline to save for what they want this is a good plan. :tu:
Precisely. When I was younger, I accumulated a lot of gear through "lay-a-way" plans. "No-interest" financing (Sweetwater) is similar, except you get the goods immediately, and only pay interest if you screw-up and miss a payment, or overrun the time limit (e.g. 24-36 months).

This is similar to the latter, but without any "penalty".

The only backlash I can see with this (aside from the certification "service" software), is of course the potential for someone getting "buyers remorse" because they change their mind, and don't want/need it anymore, and have (already) invested "x" dollars (amount being personally relevant, starting at $10), and are left with "nothing to show for it". That happens with any number of things that don't pan-out as planned, so nothing new there.

I think I could live with the "login" side of this, if only to motivate me to pay it off quicker, if it isn't a completely transparent "back-ground" task. Unlike being tempted to uninstall "Studio One 3" every time I've booted it up, and am faced with their stupid-ass promotional 'splash-screen' crap, instead of an 'interface'.

The first proper computer I got was a Dell XPS T600R back in 2000

I think I spent like three years to pay that off :D

There shouldn’t be other type of payments, only the one I use. No credit card, no debit cards, just cash like I do.
I was gonna post something about all the other things we buy on credit, i've done it with gear purchases in the past, why should this be any different?

Btw speaking of financial status it's tough to make it as music producer and i for one spend a lot more than i am making so this is really welcome. I have a monthly budget for stuff and this factors into what plugins i can buy and it means prioritizing what i need.

I applaud Steve for doing this, massive respect! Hope it paves the way for other devs but i expect they'll wait to see how this works out...

The buyers remorse is why i'm on the fence about jumping in, i barely know the synth and not had much time to dive into it. Any plugin i buy i usually demo extensively.

@Splice/Xfer if you read this presets showing the depth and diversity would really help cause three days is a short windows to decide and it's a deep synth. I've had to go searching youtube and SC to find demos closer to the genres i'd be using it for.

Anyway from what i understand it very much depends on what you put in so gonna grab some wavetables and free presets and see if i fall in love with it. :)

You mean you need to save up all the money before you can buy a car, or an apartment :D
When it comes to everything else, we do down payments as standard, so why not plugs ?
Come on now you can't possibly be comparing the purchase of a car with the purchase of a single plugin ?

A down payment for a $35,000 car is one thing but needing a $189 loan is another. Like I said if you need a loan that small then the least of your worries is getting a new plugin.

Anyway I'm not saying the model is bad but if more developers start doing this people could get themselves overextended if they aren't careful.

The obvious difference is if you save up before you buy the plugin and something happens where you're not able to save up the total amount you're not out any money. If you do this plan for say six months and then find you can no longer "save" that amount each month you are out $60 and no longer have the plugin.

When I was younger I used the "90 days same as cash" plans a lot which is how I built excellent credit. But that was for items between $1,000 and $2,000 or more. I just worry that someone who needs to "finance" a $189 plugin might not be in the best of financial positions to begin with.......

But like I said I wish all involved good luck.......... :tu:

I assume you are being sarcastic but yes $200 for the scrap metal in a broken down car. You're not going to get a running car for $200 or at least one that will pass smog tests, be safe to drive, not break down on you every day etc......

Well, I got an answer from one of the two companies I've invited to consider joining. They said not at the moment. The other one haven't responded yet.

It seems that most of the developers prefer to wait and see how far is successful the Serum plan. I can't blame them, but I'm optimistic they'll join in the future :)

I hope I can participate more in this project by searching for more developers and urging them at least to think about it :)

Keep the faith strong. It's a great project and everyone wins with it :tu:

here's one for ya:

can rental streams be transferred ?

i.e, customer has paid 6 months... for whatever reason can't continue, or doesn't want to. can s/he transfer their position to someone else ? and let them continue paying the rest of the plan.
