Hey, I may have missed the thread for it, but how is the latency on the verbsuite classics? I'm using FL Studio to measure my latency, so samples is fine.(my posts keep doubling lately

Maybe I'm a lemming, but I've just gone for this deal ($150 for a perpetual license of your choice + a year of Everything Bundle). For the right situation/people it could be good.plexuss wrote:Just got the promo email from steven slate re their "deal". wow. what a bunch of marketing bs. Subscriptions are great for some people but they appear to be trying to get as many users on the subscriptions as possible, using hype and marketing tactics. I;m staying away from the subscription because for the way I use their tools it would end up costing me an arm and a leg. That's great to offer both license ownership and subscription but to try and net people into the subscription with such obvious capitalistic tactics is sort of disgusting. I thought PA was bad for marketing hype but Slate takes the cake.
I have perpetual licenses for VMR, VCC, VBC and VTM already, so the value to me of the bundle is a bit diminished, but I was planning to get perpetual licenses for the Custom EQ and possibly the Blue Compressors this month anyway (depending upon what else I end up getting for Black Friday).
With this deal, you end up paying $30 more for the perpetual license than you generally would through a reseller. However, you also get a year of using all of the plugins to decide which are 'keepers'/which you use a lot, and pick up the perpetual licenses gradually (or stick with the subscription if you end up 'liking' it). Quite reasonable for $30, IMO.
Of course, I think it would be good if they promoted their perpetual licenses as much as their subscription but they clearly have a preference so I'm not sure if makes sense to fight it.

That makes sense. I wouldn't say you were a lemming, or a sheeple.counterparty wrote:Maybe I'm a lemming, but I've just gone for this deal ($150 for a perpetual license of your choice + a year of Everything Bundle). if you really do use them it's fine.
Anyways, there seems to be more talk about everything other than if anyone likes the delay. I think I'll start a thread for the d16 version since it's out.

If you're on Windows, also take a look into the ProgramData Folder, then delete all traces to VSC there as well (Slate Digital -> VerbSuite Classic)

I think the support is currently busy with the "Repeater" release and the "Black" sales. Please give them another day... can't sadly help you on Mac.
HOWEVER... since VSC is based upon "LiquidSonics Reverberate", maybe take a dive over on that page as well to see if there might be a solution for you.

Well, yes and no. It really depends on what you need Photoshop and Illustrator for. There are great non-subscription alternatives, but there remain no applications that can do everything the Adobe software can do. And over the last 18 months, the integration between apps has gotten better and better, which adds to that value. And there still isn't a Premiere/After Effects/Audition combo out there anywhere that can rival Adobe in terms of workflow as a group of apps. Plus, Adobe continues to add new apps and add features to their apps that nobody else has matched.plexuss wrote:Re Adobe - not true. I mentioned Affinity Photo and Designer - this company saw an opportunity with Adobe going subscription only and have created a viable Photoshop/Fireworks and Illustrator alternative. I use them and haven't had to go to Adobe for anything. It would be nice to find a InDesign alternative. but for $100 I have apps now that have rendered Adobe a mere memory. (There are many other Photoshop/Illustrator options too, like Sketch, Pixlemator, etc)Robmobius wrote:It's different with Adobe, they have a monopoly. And there's no real decent (professional) alternative. Pretty much everybody uses them. So you've little choice to deal with them.plexuss wrote: I get the value of a subscription but to hype it so much to people as if it's a better option that buying the licenses is, well, more Steven Slate BS. IMHO.
So it all comes down to what you personally need. I don't think Adobe intended that every single user would switch to the subscriptions, but they also knew that many would buy subscriptions who weren't customers previously. And Adobe knows that as long as they continue to add value (which they have done a tremendous job with), the subscription will remain viable.
However, they are one of the few companies who can get away with ONLY doing subscriptions, and that has to do largely with the sheer power, integration, and widespread industry use of their apps.
I don't want to take away from the competition though. There are some great ones. Sketch really caught Adobe sleeping and grabbed a good portion of business from them. Which is why Adobe has now been creating their own prototyping app to partially compete with it. And that is a good thing. Affinity creates an awesome app that in turn forces Adobe to stay sharp, which in turn forces Affinity to continue improving to keep those it pulled away from Adobe, and the cycle goes on. And if your needs don't require the more specialty features of the Adobe apps, it makes complete sense to find something else. But in the subscription realm, I believe Adobe is very unique. Very few others could get away with that.
I won't comment much on Steven Slate. I've met him personally and he was an extremely nice guy who seemed very passionate about the products he had at the time (this was before Slate Digital was created though). I guess passion for your product can easily turn into over-hyping them. Slate isn't unique in that regard. If plugin companies go sub only, they will fail. there will always be other companies that offer license ownership. Too bad for those that are so bought-into any company because you are then at their whim. Slate should go sub-only, if only to show the rest of the industry what a dumb idea that would be. Slate is so full of himself I bet he'll do it too.
As for the plugin companies failing though, it is hard to say. You are probably right that they will suffer to some extent. Fail? It depends on the company. Unlike the design and media world that Adobe dominates, there really isn't a plugin company that dominates an entire portion of the industry. I mean, even the giants like EastWest have very stiff competition. So I don't think any company right now could be as successful as Adobe has (Adobe has brought in more money each year since going to subscriptions). If they came up with a big enough value that increases over time, or maybe offer perpetual licenses once you reach so much time in a subscription, they may be able to find a way.
I think subscriptions are here to stay though. They work, they make sense, they increase the number of customers who can access your products, and they don't have to replace perpetual licenses. I personally am glad they are offered. And while this post is admittedly a lot of rambling on, I think this subject will probably be discussed over and over as things evolve. Hopefully the companies who do it will find success, because that only helps all of us
