Audio Assault have been making linux versions of their
collection for a while now, I just tried their new Sigma amp-sim
with IR loader, and it's quite a jewel. High-gain amp

if so desired.

It's free for the moment, and they'll ask for an email at the shop,
but are not mass spammers, just useful product announcements etc

IR junkies should love this product. The download asks if you
would like to buy their Duality Bass Studio plugin, for $9.99,
and it get's good reviews from ufug, AlexTheBassist and
gmaq, musician and creator of the long-running debian based
AVLinux musician-focussed linux distribution ( http://www.bandshed.net/ )
The above fellows all know their stuff.

Audio Assault Aural-Verb plugin will be nice to use with Sigma,
before or after a U-he ColourCopy delay, very good times for

For those using or contemplating a linux setup suitable
for many commercial windows plugins, a distro with
the great LinVst plugin wrapper, and wine-staging
setup for action in a modern Debian linux system, repleat with
lots of installed demos, is at the ready.

gmaq, the AVLinux distro creator,
has a new release, 4.10 and at first
glance, it's awesome

There are easy-to-follow instructions for ubuntu users to get
the few dependencies and the package installed, and build instructions
if someone wants to compile on their sysytem, all very nicely presented,
and linux users considering a midi controller, or a more modern one,
now have another alternative.

Macs are also supported

Cakewalk daw in linux? Why not. Wine and wineasio
don't seem to mind. A few details are in the other linux

I'm a total Cakewalk newbie, but will promote it sometimes
because their support staff have been helpfull several times.
I need to get plugin scanning sorted, but here's one

and making progress, the more help the better.

I had windows Cakewalk via wine, and native linux Reaper
in a session together...on different desktop screens.
The connections from qjackctl panel below show the output
from both daws routed to Jack Timemachine recorder utility.
Kontakt, RMXL, Synth1, Absynth 5, and a synth with midi-out
among the participants. A sample of the audio is attached,
it's a short zipped mp3.

Cakewalk is still kickin' it, Bandlab released a new version
with around 40 bug-fixes, and a couple dozen features
and workflow mods.

Ugo's 'old' String Theory plugin is still uncomplicated but effective fun, even if superceded by his M-Theory. (The entire Ugo collection is now free... S-T has sliders to blend between pluk and bow, dual multi-directional gated arps, with dual holds, a delay setup with dual pan controls, and separate speed/dot tempos for each pan, so there are great combos dividing between automated and hand-played sessions, with the delay feedback extending the machinery, and a ton of presets, many from the late great Tim Conrardy... and it's nice that it works in Cakewalk, drug feet-first out of the cyber boneyard by Bandlab, and wearing new dancing shoes on a regular basis. Trying to sort the linux 'limits.conf' settings, I maxed it out at
99, and upped 'jackdbus auto' setting in qjackctl to 92
(89 was a traditional max in qjackctl, so sorting a possible
mis-information as core linux audio code improves)

...recorded the attachement ditty style in linux Reaper
with a Kontakt piano, and pair of Synth1 arps,
two old and great instruments.
The session was using 23% of i7 2600 cpu, @ 3.4 ghz
but a filemanager/text-editor etc were also running.

Also, Kontakt was not limited to using a single core in Reaper's
buffering settings, a previous helpful choice, and was playing without dropouts, so a definite improvement over previous efforts!

I added a SampleTank 3 nylon guitar with some delay on it, to separate it
a bit from The Giant's sounds, attached zipped mp3,
and after closing the non-audio bits,
cpu use is still fine, 23% and lower

New version of Cakewalk By Bandlab is out now,
another long list of changes, but Reaktor and Kontakt
are both still working. The install and launch are still
too clunky for comfort, but what's a few extra sips
of coffee waiting for a free daw to untwist it's panties

Great that Bandlab are keeping this daw alive!
