Another neat feature would be the ability to show third party plugin functions on the mixing strip view, pretty much like you can do with builtin plugins.
It would be as simple as clicking on a plugin window, opening a dialog box to select which parameters you want to show up (i.e; compressor's threshold, attack and release) and these parameters would show up as simple sliders in the mixing strip.
This would save much time opening plugin windows...And one could do his own custom channel strips (hp filter, saturation, compressor, etc...) and save it as a mixing preset. It would be awesome.

And another thing that would be great would be different panning options.
I've been using Boz's Pan Knob and Goodhertz Panpot a lot lately...A lot of people underestimate panning, but different panning methods can make a HUGE difference.
Cubase has something like this (Stereo Balance Panner/ Stereo Combined Panner).

Would be cool indeed, but if a plugin has 100 parameters how would S1 know which ones to show?RafaelMorgan wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:34 pm Another neat feature would be the ability to show third party plugin functions on the mixing strip view, pretty much like you can do with builtin plugins.

I remain in total shock and disappointment that not every entry in this thread is retrospective record/capture last take as recording. It is the single most important feature missing and all of its competitors have it. Everything else people are suggesting are these niche nice-to-haves. Retrospective record is a borderline base level requirement!
Even I was offended by what I was going to put here.

Didn't even know such a thing existed before this threadChemik wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:07 pm I remain in total shock and disappointment that not every entry in this thread is retrospective record/capture last take as recording. Could potentially be useful for recording my analog synth but far from being really important for me.

What always prevents me from considering S1 is the lack of "meta modulation", e.g. LFOs, env followers, step modulators, freely drawable LFO/multinodes, connected to any kind of parameter. That said, S1 already looks to me like the modern version of Cubase, very nice. Just like Antic wrote.

Yeah good point, even my roland fantom x had retrospective recording in 2007
pretty wild this isn't included in all daws, modartt pianos have it as well.

Aren´t there not enough 3rd party solutions out there???Hanz Meyzer wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:42 pm What always prevents me from considering S1 is the lack of "meta modulation", e.g. LFOs, env followers, step modulators, freely drawable LFO/multinodes, connected to any kind of parameter. ...
- Synths like Serum, Rapid, Avenger, Falcon, Phase Plant ...etc..have more modulation options one could ever need
- FX like kiloHearts, Melda, Unfiltered Audio, Fabfilter offer an awful lot too...
- Solutions like MUX, Bidule and others are modulation monsters for VST plugins as well
- Studio One´s Automation system with different shapes and the transform tool replaces many modulation options with a much better control how they evolve over time...
- you can always use something like LFOtool, Shaperbox, Tantra as most modulation destinations are volume pan and cutoff
- on top of all that there is always the ability to use something like midi shaper on a seperate track to control a multitude of parameters...
For me, the only difference is perhaps that it´s a bit more work and not integrated so nicely but otoh you have much better control with most of the options and go and try to record a modulation in Bitwig for further editing...
I would be mostly interested in features which I cannot replace easily with a 3rd party solution like better and more timestretching... this is quite hard to work around...

A simple dialog box where you could pick which parameters you'd like would be enough...Pretty much the same thing like when you want to automate a plugin parameter manually...Just pick whatever you want from a list.recursive one wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:55 pmWould be cool indeed, but if a plugin has 100 parameters how would S1 know which ones to show?RafaelMorgan wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:34 pm Another neat feature would be the ability to show third party plugin functions on the mixing strip view, pretty much like you can do with builtin plugins.

That's trivial - you modulate DC Offset, bounce that to audio and then use Audio Rate to modulate other parameters with that recorded modulationTrancit wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:38 pmFor me, the only difference is perhaps that it´s a bit more work and not integrated so nicely but otoh you have much better control with most of the options and go and try to record a modulation in Bitwig for further editing...![]()

It´s just half an hour work... I thought it was more in the one hour range...

What if you want the same LFO to control something in the synth and something in the effect sitting on that synth? Or in two synths you've layered togther? What if you want the amount or speed of this LFO to be also controlled by something else?Trancit wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:38 pmAren´t there not enough 3rd party solutions out there???Hanz Meyzer wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:42 pm What always prevents me from considering S1 is the lack of "meta modulation", e.g. LFOs, env followers, step modulators, freely drawable LFO/multinodes, connected to any kind of parameter. ...

Can something like that be done with a thrid party tool in S1?

But at least you CAN do it in Bitwig.Trancit wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:46 pmAny more complicated way???antic604 wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:44 pm That's trivial - you modulate DC Offset, bounce that to audio and then use Audio Rate to modulate other parameters with that recorded modulation![]()

In S1 you can't modulate something in Serum and re-use that same CV in Sylenth1. Or have Serum's modulation respond to a MIDI notes or volume of signal in Sylenth1? Piece of cake in Bitwig, impossible in S1.
No one claims modern devices don't have modulation (although often it's insufficient or rudimentary). But it's the fact that the system is global and re-usable that makes Bitwig - and similar DAWs - unique in this regard. That's why people ask for this. Maybe you don't need it for your own music, but I don't need expression maps or staff notation, yet you don't see me going around and trivialising people's requests for implementing it?

LFO Tool or MIDI Shaper can output envelope/LFO to specified MIDI CC, that can be "learned" by plugins the same way they "learn" controllers. But it's nowhere near as flexible and easy to set up as a native solution.recursive one wrote: Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:54 pmWhat if you want the same LFO to control something in the synth and something in the effect sitting on that synth?
