Strymon Big Sky Plugin

I just demo'd this for an hour or so. Very nice, I must say. At first, I thought the same was a bit "shy" and reserved, but, it sounds very pristine and hi-fi and glues together nicely with the dry signal.
What I especially like about it though is that it's pretty complete, plate, hall, shimmer, spring, it's all there, and the plugin and GUI don't overwhelm you with dozens of parameters either, but restricts itself to the most common and necessary parameters. GUI is nice and easy (the rotary selection for the algorithms is not interfering as you can quickly choose them by clicking on the name).
Overall, very impressed. I'm sure this'll be a winner, maybe especially for people not already owning too many reverbs, looking for an easy to use and nice sounding all-in-one solution.
As it's so pricey, I won't buy it, but, I'll keep an eye on it for potential discounts in the future.

Somone will then say, "see, Strymon released 12 algorithms for $199, Moog released 7 for $149. On par!"WatchTheGuitar wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 4:59 pm Meanwhile Moog release 7 modeled Moogerfooger plugins in a bundle for $149
The prices are the prices.
If Big Sky was 12 plugins at $199 rather than one plugin with 12 algorithms, would it be better? You'd still have people complaining with things like "why split it out".

If someone owns and uses the pedal already then this is a cool offering because the workflow is known and makes one not have to learn another bit of software.
Kind of like why UAD plug ins did so well because they were emulating a known physical processor in the real world which made it easy to make the transition from hardware to software.
So for a guitar guy or producer that’s been using the pedal this it makes perfect sense at any price. While for me, who’s never used it, it would be a curiosity and new bit of program to be compared to everything else with no workflow advantage(initially).
Bottom line.. those guitar players need something easy to work with:) -joking.

I'm primarily a guitar player which is why I wouldn't buy this 'pedal' sim...I like to plug my pedals into my amps, mike my amps etc..If I am ITB for some reason I would be using HELIX or Amplitube- they all have a ton of this type of FX built in with thew ability chain with virtual amps etc..(XSpace is actually pretty good in Ampliuble)
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

It looks like a very simple and easy to use reverb to me.musicdoc wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:26 pm If someone owns and uses the pedal already then this is a cool offering because the workflow is known and makes one not have to learn another bit of software.

I could see it maybe being a good choice for a project. Making a choice to just using this for a whole project/album would save a lot of decision making and give a consistent ambience/feel across all tracks.chk071 wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:15 pm Overall, very impressed. So, yeah - potential discounts could be good!

Out of curiosity, since I already have all the Valhalla plugins, if I got JST Skybox, would that cover everything that the Strymon Bigsky plugin has?

I bought the JST Skybox because, it’s $20…stuman wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 1:10 pm Out of curiosity, since I already have all the Valhalla plugins, if I got JST Skybox, would that cover everything that the Strymon Bigsky plugin has?
I’ve been comparing it with Big Sky and it doesn’t compete, not at all. The algorithms sound nothing like the Big Sky. That being said, the JST is a pretty sweet reverb.

Gotta say, demoed the Moog plugins and this, and while both are good, I'm really close to pulling the trigger on the Big Sky. It really "just works" on guitar quite effortlessly. Will demo it on other sources, and not in a rush to buy, but yeah, will probably pick this up somewhere in between 7 days from now and my eventual death of old age.

No. iLok has proven to be a solid copy protection system for developers. It's pretty unobtrusive also. Makes perfect sense people would choose to us it.DNnX wrote: Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:16 pm And both are iLok protected with 7days trial.

Just demo it (or don't if you want to save your money!)stuman wrote: Fri Oct 21, 2022 1:10 pm Out of curiosity, since I already have all the Valhalla plugins, if I got JST Skybox, would that cover everything that the Strymon Bigsky plugin has?
The Valhalla stuff is very good (I also have them) but Bigsky has 12 reverb machines in one box (plugin) which is much more continent for switching around top try things out.
Sound quality is very subjective, but many have said BigSky is amongst the best (especially for big, lush, long tails) and from what I have heard I can't disagree....my guitar loved it.
I'm not in a rush, there will be sales, but I will buy this.

Big Sky has a thickness and depth to it , I haven’t found in any other verbs so far. Must say this is tempting
