I just don't believe that was the idea of OSC and giving people various synths. Would be much more interesting then if you give people the same synth every month and ask to do something different than before - more diverse.
I feel like I addressed that with my previous comment that you said wasn't what you meant? Some do that. I try to do that. Some don't. Because well... see previous comment. People make what they feel like making.

I can imagine how the basic idea can get a little buried over the years and I used to feel really uneasy whenever I felt I could hear more of a mastering template than the synth of the month. But the original concept is still to create a complete arrangement with the given synth. Or possibly create an enjoyable piece of music with even just a single instance.

I can't speak for others, of course, but I personally really love to figure out how to make any synth create sounds that I enjoy to use. My own taste naturally remains my own and I'd gravitate towards certain sounds more than others.
The differences come from the versatility and fundamental sounds of the synth. With it then also comes its own kind of inspiration in all the "good" cases, hehe. (yes, yes, quotes again :P ).

While I seriously don't lock myself into any specific genre, I have my phases and my senses, leading me down their path. Just like any artist would, I imagine. But that's why I always keep talking about sincerity, the idea of wanting to make music with a synth as the only real priority. No other agenda attached. That pretty much guarantees genuine results whatever they may be.

I can absolutely always recommend this fundamental approach, guided exclusively by true excitement, targeted at the use of the synth and at the music it allows us to create. Then it's also never really a waste of time. Every time will therefore also help you get closer to yourself in a way.

Why are you asking me this? Of course there's nothing wrong with discussion. You gave your opinion. I gave my opinion. I actually feel like you and get tired of hearing the same thing from people. But, you know, someone may only like making music in one genre. They shouldn't feel bad about it.

Of course not. But THAT would be challenge - made music in some genre using completely different instruments. It's too many repetitive sounds in music and everyone wants to sound like the others (within the genre). That would be refreshing (like Apocalyptica does using classical instruments to play Metallica songs).

I'd assume, though don't know, that I'm not the only one that ended up not knowing what to do with it and just putting it into the 1 slot. ....it would explain the low result for you more than your music, which somehow felt very consistently fine in the years that I know you!
The thing is that I made a mistake in the track title and fixed it a few days after the submission. I guess that SC might've changed the link automatically (well, another bug/feature of that awesome site) and it could be the reason why the song didn't show up in the list.

Btw, the new design of SC looks horrible. Like a free WordPress theme from 2010.

Awww, pFFFFF, that's so unfortunate, dang it. I'm really sorry I didn't find out in time! But, yeah, something to figure out to fix possibly on the voting website, too, in case such stuff happens.

Well, and yes, I also hate the new design on SC...feels wrong for many reasons. That, however, is out of our hands, sadly.

Anyway, this should give you at least some comfort, knowing that your track did not end up so low for its musical qualities, but a technical hick-up. :dog:

I'm not sure if we are also allowed to choose from the usual list of prizes. So if that's still possible, I would love to also get the Dawesome Hate :hyper:
If you would prefer it you can get the Dawesome Hate, which will allow Taron to get the DS Thorn + DS Tantra 2 + Karanyi Sounds Wavesurfer
I would still like to have Tantra 2 and Wavesurfer, so I would like to skip Dawesome Hate in that case. Sorry for the confusion! Thanks Richard.
That's great.
I think we just need to start the process again, and check whether Taron and Toadjho want to change their selection.

So far:
exponent1 - DS Thorn + DS Tantra 2 + Karanyi Sounds Wavesurfer
Congrats everyone!

I choose DS Diversion.
Thanks!

When I first found out about OSC (through the full bucket website) - I assumed it was the virtual equivalent to being put in a room with a Minimoog for a month. Nothing much else, no presets. Just you and the synth.
It made me feel romantic about the early days of JMJ, or Isao Tomita making an orchestra from just a Moog in 1974.

I assumed that each round would have a distinctive sound because of this (as Peter said).

But assumptions are just assumptions. I've since got used to what OSC is., and I'm happy with that. It doesn't bother me at all.
OSC feels more like a fun music making club. Having 40 talented musicians listen intently to my creations every month is pretty much invaluable. It gives me motivation to try my best - or even try at all. I don't really mind about rules etc any more. As long as OSC continues and is successful I'm happy - however people choose to use it.

VCA-089 wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 8:19 am I very rarely leave comments on the topic, but there is something that annoys me for several months already.
I started making music for OSC several years ago and at that time my music lacked quality and consistency. And of course it was badly mixed and mastered. But I was receiving much more positive feedback and I was placed much higher in the rankings (even hit the top 5 spot several times).
Now I only receive parroted comments about my bad mixing over and over again, and I'm sick of it. I came here to find new listeners to my music (am I joking to myself?), but I found distraction instead.
For my further submissions, any constructive feedback regarding composition, arrangement or aesthetic are welcome. All comments about the mix will be removed...
Message received and understood. It helps that you've been super clear about this.
It's hard to know what feedback to write - when you don't know what feedback people want.

I will certainly adhere to your wishes. And I really hope you keep playing OSC for a long time. I used to listen to commercial music a bit like yours - but i quickly ran out of quality tunes on Spotify. With your submissions - I get a free treat every month that I am guaranteed to enjoy :) Keep up the great work.

Congratulation to exponent1!

I would like to thank to Double Tap and Lopyt - not music genres I am listening, but these two tracks I downloaded in my music player.

Hey, sorry I didn't listen to your track while voting. I just saw it was greyed out and the link didn't work, so I assumed it was disqualified or something.

Definitely 5-star material. The fake guitar power chord riffage is killer.

Link to the winner track - can't find it.

Any winners can pm me and I can send an additional prize on top of the OSC prize of all my 5 Thorn banks (if desired).

Cheers
