Vibe coded plugins

So the "Machine Learning and AI for Music Creation" forum is the perfect place for this topic. This forum discusses creating songs using AI, but also vibe coding plugins and DAWs. Since this topic discusses using AI to make instruments rather than the instruments themselves, it should be moved to said forum.

My eyes just look right past most of these new releases until I see track record.
I know this site has a culture of developer challenges and newcomers coming along and make one-offs, so I am probably an outlier.

For sure that'll happen, perhaps is already possible to some degree. I don't have experience with models running locally (not interested in those atm), I just know there is a bunch of chatgpt "lite" models out there already that can run on your PC or Mac.Urs wrote: Fri May 01, 2026 6:49 am I guess we're in some kind of race. One can gamble that Anthropic et al magically become a viable business model, and software development/markets as we know it are done - "AI takes over". Or, IMHO more likely, LLMs hit a wall, Apple wins and everyone runs what limited intelligence is necessary on their M5+, "AI becomes a tool".

Rewriting my main question - has any business come out of anything vibe coded?
I've seen the wave of failed SaaS attempts on X (the everything app) that fizzled...
A good developer can gain 10-30% efficiency with a coding assistant. They can also lose 10-20% efficiency. There are surveys out there with these numbers.
Everything else is marketing / delusion.

So is the first place Vibe Coding prize awarded to plugin managers?
There’s a few similar looking new manager and they’re popping up more frequently. You can now pay anything from free, to $49, or lucky you can pay $99 annually.

I absolutely hate plugin managers

Well at least my friend the code mag guy, says the vibe coding thing is great for him, since he has to fix all this broken AI coded stuff for these big companies and gets paid a lot for it.
I guess a lot of firms are dropping sw companies like SAP in favor of AI these days. Nothing to do with music of course.

I hate what’s being released. They’re overly complicated.
My favorite is one I bought years ago for Mac. It simply shows all plugins installed at a glance and as a list, with sorting for plugin type. Nothing fancy. Right click to open the containing folder to delete.
It helps me see when AAX gets installed, and that’s just a quick delete.

What I'm seeing lately is paid vibe-coded plugins emulating OSS-available emulations or algorithms, which look a lot like license-washing. Sad to see people trying to monetize this way.

The only upgrade over using finder is the ability to see everything all at once. EDIT: Plus filtering by developer, plugin format, size and a few other things. I just used it to delete some things I was trying out, plus some AAX and VST2 formats that I don't use.

Be careful with your wishes
What actually surprises me is this weird “AI = clueless” equation. Using AI properly still requires knowing what you’re doing. Arguuably even more, because now you also have to judge whether the AI output is brilliant, broken, or confidently hallucinating nonsense.
And half the time you end up reading code written in a style no sane human would personally choose. Otherwise you ask for a VST instrument and somehow receive a vacation planner with blockchain integration and a recipe section.

Could it be that AI is only an amplifier / magnifyer glass for the person using it ... be it real skill or duning-krugerTiles wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 11:24 am Be careful with your wishes
