That way, donors still get a motivation to donate early and let Luftrum do this without having it complicated more.
... Your number idea does not facilitate the process as it is a random assignment.
It's not random, it's linear, just as alphabetizing would be.
Seemed to work very well for me on the second-hand auction.
What it facilitates is to maintain a simplicity for our charity host.

Sonnox delivered my licenses today! Many thanks to them for a very quick turnaround.

Received my codes for Umlaut PADS nice and early this morning. Been waiting all day to finally start downloading them! With my connection might not be able to play with them until tomorrow... sigh

Thanks to Luftrum for his efforts and to Umlaut for generously donating!

The numbering system has no correlation with the item. It is arbitrary. Alphabetizing is based on what everyone knows, the first letter of the source. If I am interested in a product, I know the forst letter and look for it.

What I have suggested would make everyone's participation including Luftrum's easier.

We all have every right to politely express our opinions, make suggestions and describe how one idea is better or worse than another. If you disagree with my point of view you should move on and stop engaging in this dialog instead of attempting to put an end to it.

It is not arbitrary. Numbering is for when the donator contributed, and is a visibility reward for contributing early. It also encourages people to look at the whole list, a reward to all donators for donating. Also, if bidders list the number with the bid, it's a linear search. Real-life auctions work off numbers, too (lot number).

The requirement is that the items are grouped under the donator, and the donator name is arbitrary. Is something filed under Modartt or Pianoteq? Just ctrl-f Pianoteq and there it is. Is something filed under Best Service or Eduardo Tarilonte or Cantus? Just ctrl-f Cantus and there it is. Is it filed under InMusic, AIR, Akai, Sonivox, ROLI, FXpansion, or whatever acquisitions happen in the future? Just ctrl-f whatever the product name is.

Nothing from Presonus (Studio one), Propellerhead (Reason) or Sonic Academy yet. But I don't count on it to happen before the weekend, when I really would have the time to play around with the new stuff :P

When the donator contributed the item is irrelevant. It does not work out to be anything like strategic ad placement or preferential placement like you are implying. Donators are not competing against one another. Also, this is not a physical store where you have spatial access or a website where you can view a page of images. It is a list and everything is compressed into a linear format. This translates to a crippling structure for the duration of the bidding where you are forced to scroll through the list multiple times. The Ctrl-F option is going to continue to work in conjunction with an alphabetized system. It would remain an option in either case. However the Ctrl-F option is unavailable to iPad and cell phone users.

The donator name is not arbitrary. There is typically a single donator per item. (i.e. It would be Modartt not Pianoteq) and (if it is even possible?) if for some reason a store like Best Service or Plugin Alliance or JRR happened to donate the same item as the creator or as other stores they would appear in alphabetical order and it would be up to the bidder to choose which they wanted to bid on. It is not a unique situation exacerbated by listing items by the donator. Even in this auction there were cases where a source did not offer every product they produced so you had to look at the donator to see whether their product of interest to you was listed. People know stores carry multiple products and creators frequently have multiple products. Obviously those donators will need to be scanned for things of interest. But scanning the donator listing is much more manageable than repeatedly having to scroll an entire unsorted list of donations.

Edited for spelling, clarity and typos.

To me this is poor taste to call out those who have not given out the keys/products yet. The first post says to give them a week before you contact anyone at all, much less start calling them out on a public forum. They did something really generous and this is what they get.

On a different topic:

I won bundles with soundbanks to several synthesizers I do not have and will not be acquiring. I knew what I was bidding on and I feel that got my money's worth regardless. The license is NFR. I know I cannot sell them but can I give the soundbanks away with a NFR license? Or, would I be able to put them up as donations for future charity events?
