Firstly, I second the Matt Chamberlain drum idea, I'm surprised someone mentioned it first! I saw him with Garbage (Vig was sick) and Tori Amos and he was amazing. He had this crazy super deep kick thing that sounded awesome. Funny that I wasn't a fan of hers but I saw her live and the band was brilliant.

Secondly, I have another Not-Nearly-As-Interesting-As-Squidz-Story.

My brother was down from DC (I'm here in Miami- Squid Country) and we were eating at our local favorite Asian place (the sadly defunct Asian World Fusion on Biscayne, Squidz- if they knew you, they'd hook you up!), and we were talking music and hitting the sakes back, and the topic turned to the then-latest Duran Duran album (sorry, guys, we're old new wavers!). Anyway, we were commenting on how terrible it was, produced by Timbaland and well, just godawful. The whole time, there's this guy at the counter waiting for his order, and he hears us buzzedly insulting everyone involved with the album (in a jovial without-malice way) and walks over and says...

"You talking about the last Duran Duran album?"

"Yes" I say, "it sucks" says my brother, laughing.

"I mixed that album," says the man.

Long Pause.

"Are you Jimmy Douglas?" I say. He sure is.
"F#%^%!" my brother says.

Yes, Jimmy Douglas, multi-grammy nominated credits-twenty-miles-long brilliant engineer/producer destroyer of worlds Jimmy Douglas. And we were ragging on his work, and he busted us!

Being the gracious guy he is, he says "well, it's not the mix that sucks, right?" Are you kidding me?! At this point I was looking for a small hole to crawl in, preferably with an angry tiger inside.

After telling him that it sounds fine (of course it does!) and that I know his work (even though it's not really my cup of tea, he did engineer Television's Marquee Moon and to a post-punker like me, that's ace, it's just his later work...), and congratulations on the Al Green Grammy nomination, everything was happy again, and we chatted a bit and he got his food and was heading out.

As we were saying our awkward goodbyes, my brother says "the Duran album still sucks though." I had to smile.

Moral of the story: I don't know. Don't drink and talk?!

Anyway, I've just discovered Squidz Rare Instruments collection and I want them and I'm broke, so if someone could give me some epoints I'd appreciate it. Yes, I'm reduced to begging. :) But they sound good!

Bump!

After we see how the servers handle hundreds of people downloading Phase 1 content over New Years (we're told by our server company and AT&T that this is a very high traffic time for some reason) we will make Phase 2 available which will include:

1) The Drum Masters 2 STm kits (also available as individual downloads of samples and patches separately - we're trying to make each one sized so it is easiest for everyone)

2) Steve Gadd Signature Snare Bonus

3) TWO more Bonus STm kits from Drum Masters Signature - the Tama kit from the Blackwell sessions and the Chicago Gretsch kit. But wait, didn't we say you had to hit 600 to get it? Don't worry. To make up for having to split this in phases you'll all get this anyway - even if we don't hit 600. So relax and sit back. If you want to watch and see if we hit 600 anyway but rest assured you got another prize already added to the pile.

-----------------------------------

Phase 3 will follow on Monday or Tuesday of next week with the following:

1) SquidiMidi (still working on that - I want to make it good for you guys. You have Odd Grooves to play with in the meantime).

2) 50+ Hybrid Kit Patches (might throw in some extra)

3) Convolution Ambience for Drums (we're going to see if we can make these unprotected and raw waves that you can try to use with other Convolution Reverbs but we make no claim how they will work as these were made for use with Kontakt... but I think this may allow some of you to do what you wanted to do with them. There are 25 different ambiences and a detailed list will be provided along with some info about the space etc. )

4) A SECOND Redeem Code for DownloadableSoundz that works the same way but this one will allow you to pick TWO out of the following choices (each are normally worth $50!):

- EZ Player Pro from Toontrack

- SR's Drum Masters 2: NDV Premier Discrete Multitrack Kit (with mic mixing per kit)

- SR's Drum Masters 2: NDV Gretsch Discrete Multitrack Kit (with mic mixing per kit)

- SR's Drum Masters 2: NDV Mapex Blasticks Discrete Multitrack Kit (with mic mixing per kit)

(We may also make the JB Sonor MT kit an option in this as well)

=====================

If by chance it does reach 650 though there will automatically be an additional OWD Kit (probably Kit 11 dry) added to everybody's esoundz download area automatically when it is available (we'd have to update it with the new scripts and everything and will only do that once we know it has reached 650). Because that IS going to be a fair amount of additional work (as if we don't have enough!) we are going to be strict about the number reaching 650 by midnight EST (Florida time) so in this case (unlike the other case where we're giving you the 600 bonus regardless), even if it hits 649 - sorry. 650 or more! Okay so we're back to edge of the seat anticipation again. See how it is? First we tell you to relax and then we tease you for that cherry on top. But don't be disappointed if we don't get it though is all I ask.

Did I miss anything? Does that sound reasonable? It's a lot of stuff to a lot of people. I think if we do it that way it will be best for everyone.

any chance that we will be able to hear audio demos of the kits that are available as choice options so we can be best informed about the multitrack kits that would suit us best ??

An angry tiger inside! Lol. Great story.

Ken Scott also did a few Duran Duran albums and one of them... I think the covers album called "Thank You" is supposedly considered to be one of the worste sounding albums and Supertamp's Crime of the Century is hailed by many as one of the best sounding (along with Dark Side of the Moon and select others). So he jokes about being the guy who recorded one of the best and worste sounding albums ever.

Ken's Duran Duran stories are hilarious. Simon used to ask to be called... Charles or something like that. Really bizarre. There was apparently no reason for it. Ken was out at some part once and said "Hey Charles" and he just looked at him as if he didn't know him... or something like that. I may not have the name right or story straight on that one. But either way it was a weird one. Charles or Chuck or something with C ("not THE C word just a C word" - OKAY, here you go. This one is tougher! Name the reference that quote comes from AND which actor said it with correct spelling and no question mark for 7 - that's right 7 epointz!).
