Hey thanks for the heads up Hink I'm actually looking into all those options you mentioned though I suck at soldering and have never tried my hand at anything like building a boost peddle before....the perfectionist in me shudders at the prospect of even attempting this little DIY project :scared:

I think the best and least expensive route for me is going to be the Blackouts modular pre. Maybe I'll try it in my Ibanez first as I've never really liked the sound of the stock pickups but just haven't been able to justify the cost of the active EMG's for it.

As for the the question of neck-thru...sadly this model is bolt on...I'm considering cancelling my order and just holding out until I find another deal on a sc607...doesn't ship until 6/24/2011 so we'll see what this nutty mind of mine decides to do. :help:

I have not tried the blackout pre yet but I have so many others (I have an active addiction, I just found anothe rPA-2 I forgot I had :hihi: ), the EMG Pa-2 http://www.guitarpartsdepot.com/Guitar- ... oster.html is as easy as pie to install (snip the how wire going to your jack, insert the pre-amp, ground it and add the battery clip), The Artec QDD2 which is awesome (I have three) are a 5 way rotary switch with a bypass and four types of boost but requires soldering directly to the board (which still is very simple).

BYOC (build your own clone) has a kit called 'The Confidence Booster' http://www.buildyourownclone.com/confidence.html that is designed to be a great booster but also a very basic build.

The stratoblaster clone is very easy and if you buy it without the enclosure and put it direct in your guitar you save 12 dollars http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/com ... egory_id=7

To me soldering is a skill that every guitar player using electric guitars should have, in fact to me it's like being a driver whom imo should know how to change a tire. because of this belief I will always do my very best to encourage and help anyone. If you are in the states I will even give you my phone number and walk you through every step.

About the ESP, the body being similar I have to tell you that it's one of the most comfortable guitars to play. When I got (in Feb) I sat down and it was a kitten in my lap, just like it belonged there. I have another ESP/LTD that is more bulky and less comfortable but the carved top model is as nice a guitar as I have played (I have a Warmoth hardtail strat and a Daion that are both the same way). The one I bought went goes for 650 now but when I bought it it was 600.

I would wait until you get the one you ordered and if you dislike it return it, but I think I would at least give it a shot...just my opinion...best wishes and best of luck with your new ax :)

FWIW I have played/tried out each of the Steph Carpenter LTD sevens, the eight string and one of the ESP ones and well they all played great :)
I have owned an ESP Horizon (neck thru, string thru carved maple top) and yeah i would, like Hink says hang on for that one at the price. Only reason i did not go for one of them myself? No Floyd option and the Horizon got stolen. Heck i even have an old LTD M-50 somewhere in bits and that played fine with upgraded pickups for peanuts. At the moment i think that we are spoilt for choice in a very good way, Long may it continue! Cheers

If it helps at all, I can get you a new SC607 for $832.

I just discovered this really cool guitar shop I had no idea existed in a really random place not so far by car from where I live. I went in and had a look, not expecting much but omg... the range of stuff this guy was carrying was really good. There was just beautiful guitars and amps everywhere. Anyway, I took the opportunity to try some seven strings, because I've been thinking I might want to get one... and yup, I have to have one. So sometime in the future, a 7 string is my next guitar. (I only have 1 now, a Strat, which I love). They just sounded so damn heavy, chugg chugg chugg. I was trying them through an Orange Tiny Terror, which I think I now want, I liked it. But there was an Ibanez I really liked (can't remember the model name), but also a second hand Schecter that I thought was great too. I'm gonna start saving for a deposit. Kinda hoping the Schecter hangs around for a bit.

I have a 6-string bass, it's very bass.
If you like post pictures of the Ibanez and Schecter.
I have an Ibanez rg, it's peaches. Ibanez is my synth guitar, as it has hex pickup.

I'll have to find out what they were. I'll phone the guy and ask him what models.

yeah but at the bottom (second to last) is one of my 'children' except mine is a different color and I have not adde switches (but plenty of active electronics) :D

Oh yeah, I didn't see it. Yeah, I'd rather have your color personally.

Not a new guitar per se, but I'm currently giving serious thought to getting a replacement neck for my Skylark Curvycaster http://www.skylarkguitars.com/skylark-c ... 646-0.html

I  the body and the addition of a set of GFS Neovins means it sounds superb, but I haven't really gelled with the still chunky neck, even after having it skimmed by my local tech. Throw in the bizarre way the Tree of Life neck inlay has been done, it starts at the second fret rather than the first or third and as much as I like playing it, this and the neck profile tend to put me off.

I can get 22 fret necks easily enough at decent prices http://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/produ ... ret_STRS22 which I've read glowing reports of over at CM forum, or my preference, a maple neck/fretboard http://www.dangleberrymusic.co.uk/p-462 ... board.aspx

Time to do a bit of detailed measuring, but it's looking likely I'll shortly be taking a punt on one of those necks.

Wow! I've never seen one of those!

Hi Ian, it's hard to tell from the pages but they do seem reasonably priced, I would be more comfortable with a Double Expanding Truss Rod like Warmoth offers but it seems that these necks (based on lack of any info suggesting otherwise) are standard or 'vintage' truss rods,. There is no problem with that though the double expanding takes less maintenance and less seaonal changes so it's very possible you might have to tweak the truss rod in either of those necks.

:)

Hibidy, I agree...the neck thru is more obvious and looks better with the red color of my guitar. :tu: I think they also have the wood wrong because I read that all power mark xx moels were 14 pieces of rosewood and maple.
