Hopefully the oversampling bug in fusor will be fixed soon, dying to use that with oversampling on!

actually timewarp is excellent, and is the best analog emulation ive tried. but its still not 100%, and to me it sounded like he could have said the same thing for every emulation.Urs wrote:In defense of the timewARP, this is IMHO the synth where this kind of thinking fits best. If there was a hardware equivalent to Strobe, I assume that Strobe would be the second synth I'd say that about.starla* wrote:its funny that people actually think a vst emulator sound exactly like an analog synth just because it got the same name.

starla*, have you ever used two of the same hardware analog synth? Two minimoogs, for instance, side by side so you can compare them? If you have, did they sound identical?

Download or boxed, direct from FXpansion, or choose a different web shop if you prefer.
Peace,
Andy.

Well...My point was that it's 'for' sale, i.e. available, not 'on' sale.
The new thread title is a bit misleading.
BTW Floridamusic has it for $239

A couple of questions/wishes regarding sliders and their values. Forgive if I have missed something obvious... I still have to read some parts of the manual with some more thought.
1. Apparently the only way to reset a slider to its "neutral" position is to ctrl-click and then select the corresponding menu item. Why not use alt-click (on Mac) for this, seems to be the standard in Logic and many other plugins?
2. When fine-tuning the scale parameter with the shift key (with Equal & Off selected), the pitch jumps 7 cents with each step. This is quite a lot, why not make it 1 cent? Of course I can always type in the exact value, but since the Logic 8 bug, I can't do that either... dunno if it's fixed in L9, haven't tested yet. But in any case, fine-tuning could be even finer in this case, in my humble opinion.
3. The manual says about the "Off" option (that turns off pitch snapping):
4. How come all (I think) sliders that set a time value suddenly jump from 2ms (or actually 1.98ms) to 0ms when decreasing the value? When you go over 2ms, you can set them to anything you like with an accuracy of 0.01ms. I'm pretty sure there's a good reason for this, but again, just something that caught my eye.
BTW, loving Synth Squad, I'm really trying to learn it inside out! The interface and many details feel and look a little coder-ish (as in "coder graphics"), but that doesn't bother me too much.

3. The manual says about the "Off" option (that turns off pitch snapping):
...which, if I understand correctly, is not quite true. In fact, "Off" just turns off semitone snapping, but you still set the pitch using whichever mode was selected before (Just, Harmonic, or Equal). This is also a bit confusing, since "Off" is presented in the menu as if it was a selectable mode just like the others. When you see the asterisk indicating that "Off" is selected, you have no way of knowing which mode (with no snapping) is currently active. Not a major problem, since you can of course immediately see the mode in the visualizer when you move the control, but just a little illogical and confusing.Synth Squad Manual wrote:Off
Turns off all snapping/unit options: the control is set in semitones but does not snap to whole semitones

I can't trawl through 10 squillion pages to see if this has been asked
1. Does it sound completely 100% analogue(as they made out in the video pre release without actually giving some music demo) and what vintage analogue machines does it sound like(if so).
Moogs, Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, etc
I'm still a sceptic about a digital computer ever producing a 100% analogue sound unless it's streaming a sample of an analogue synth...
I.e. is this the technological breakthrough of analogue/digital! or NOT...

Highly unlikely, but the difference may be completely unrecognizable.breakmixer wrote:Does it sound completely 100% analogue
If you read the concept, it seems to sound like its own self. Certain circuitry was modeled. But Synth Squad, is not trying to emulate anything.what vintage analogue machines does it sound like(if so).
Great concept! Imho...

sooner or later it all comes down to math and physics. A sample of an analogue synth, on your hard-drive, has been digitized. A digital sine wave, is still a sine wave born of discreet mathematics.
Tough luck, huh...
I.e. is this the technological breakthrough of analogue/digital! or NOT...
Probably...
Unfortunately, I don't want to upgrade my OS right now, from 10.4, to 10.5, so I can't say for sure, but, "sound wise," I bet these things are amazing. Definitely a leap forward.
How big?
Well, how do you measure sound quality?
Cause that is where the breakthrough is supposed to be. These are not synths, trying to be the next Reaktor, or even Rapture...
These synths are supposed to be about tone. Like a Fender Telecaster, or a Gibson Les Paul, RIP. Which guitar sounds better?

The tests we performed are listed here:Wopelka wrote:just a question, as i'm a bit puzzled with all the CPU hog discussino:
is a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 2.33 Ghz & 4 Mb of RAM enough to run Synth Squad without too much trouble?

Each instrument varies in CPU load (listed here from lowest to highest):
Strobe/StrobeFX
Cypher/CypherFX
Amber/AmberFX
Fusor
The confusion comes I think from people just reading the minimum spec for Fusor, and not the minimum spec for each instrument.
