Sorry I missed it! Our neighborhood was much busier this year than previous Halloweens. I was really happy to get to chat with more of our neighbors.
id have liked some of that too, but after the inital straight after school, next door neighbours really little ones, we never had a single knock!
I did eventually post my video :hihi:

fixed the hot air gun on my soldering iron station. its been flaky for ages, but i recently i found an old advisory by the manufacturer acknowledging the issue and describing how to fix. required replacing the blower fan and adding a 30ohm resistor.
couldnt use the soldering iron on the soldering station to do it, obviously, because live electricity, so had to dig out my old oldering iron to accomplish, which kinda felt odd. (id also forgotten that it takes 3 weeks or so to get up to temperature.)

Got my hands on an unstable NI Reaktor beast I built in 2018. 10 fixed FX slots where the settings AND the feedback routing to all the other slots is based on the input and the audio buffer, sending mangled sounds to the others which then mangle the shit their way, just to send it into the network again and so on. It's a CPU hog, it sometimes breaks down completely and needs to be reloaded, sometimes the output blasts like a rocket, but anyway, the sounds coming out of it are unique and pretty great!

that's cool

Last night I decided I needed to get a good sense of what my modular system could do. I’ve spent too much time looking online and not enough just f**king around. I Learnt that the Germania 241 really needs an envelope to sound the way it’s supposed to. I also learned that the envelope out of Manis Iteritas works well and that I can get short, snappy envelopes from both it and Envy Machine. I got really off into the deep end after that but the weird stuff is invigorating and I was up ‘til 1:00am and got 5 hours of sleep :(

Last night I spent several hours forming various seventh chords using my left hand on the Mosaichord to determine what is the ideal starting position:
  • M
  • 26♭5
  • m
  • 6
  • d
  • m6
  • 6♭5
  • d6
  • mM
  • A6
  • dM
  • m6♯5
  • 46♭5
  • 4M
  • mM♯5
There is a natural argument for simply using 1/1 as the starting position, but due to my entire musical framework being based on functional harmony, 3/2 and its octave equivalents are a very strong contender since I want "Lydian" (1/1 or 63/32) and "Locrian" (7/5 or 45/32) to be harmonically prominent.

In addition, I have reconfirmed that 4M (major 7th suspended 4th) and mM♯5 (minor-major 7th sharp 5th) are harmonically interchangable. Example JI cadences (using 3/4):
  1. 5/6 + 1/1 (6/6) + 7/6 + 3/2 (9/6) = d
  2. 3/4 (1/1) + 63/64 (21/16) + 9/8 (3/2) + 45/32 (15/8) = 4M
  3. 3/4 (1/1) + 15/16 (5/4) + 9/8 (3/2) + 45/32 (15/8) = M
  1. 1/1 + 4/3 + 7/5 + 5/3 = 46♭5
  2. 3/4 (1/1) + 7/8 (7/6) + 7/6 (14/9) + 45/32 (15/8) = mM♯5
  3. 3/4 (1/1) + 7/8 (7/6) + 9/8 (3/2) + 45/32 (15/8) = mM
Most of my LinnStrument experience with ergonomic isomorphic chord shapes carried over, but not every seventh chord has been ergonomically converted yet.

So found new ways to make things complicated

Just learned about Noisevember and felt it would be a great time to feature Space Station.

Then OBS stopped working correctly. No sound, then got quiet sound (despite the meter showing otherwise). Tried recording with Quicktime, but it was super low res, so back to recording audio/video separately and leaving the trouble shooting to another day.

I threw in Syntakt on the last take and just went with it.

So long as it's fun, it's worth doing and I did have fun.

That sounds great! I wasn't aware of Noisevember. Ive got a lot going on this month but I've been in a particularly noisy mood, so perhaps if I find some free time I'll put something together.

OBS frequently loses my input devices (video and audio)! At least now I know I'm not alone.

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Bonding with my new axe. I hardly played guitar at all for almost 18 months, a first for me.
So, I’m making some custom ToneX patches while my fingers harden and strengthen again, and putting the PRS SE DGT through its paces.

I did the usual searches online and kept finding dead Reddit threads full of problems, and no solutions. Just that sometimes it works correctly!

A month dedicated to noise can be a fun thing. I’m hoping to do another soon. Would love for these to be easy to knock out.
