HEY! no one replies to me!..
I posted a jpeg map for kit2
:P Enjoy guys!

It was a long month of sampling, editing , re sampling, mapping, testing, etc...
Then, I had the entire summer looking for an OEM VST host to encode to.. for copy protection but they are way $$$.. and I would have to sell it for over $100.00 and about a GB of samples...
NOW!
I'm planning for the Platinum set and sell it with Paypal. .... working on it...
The Platinum set! Hot Rods, Sticks, Brushes, Mallets, 2 14'' Snare drums, new 16x18 kick drum and more cymbal performances... with a $70 Paypal donation

I'll get that DK+ or DR-008 and make patches..
I need a Drum Sampler that can handle at least 12 layers....

Lets do a vote for the format of choice...
How many layers!
16bit -24bit-32bit
48kh or 44kh
Etc....

NS Kit 7 is 24bit at 48KHz, mapped for HALion3, if that affects you. Douglas is using Amazon's reseller space - I'm guessing because the fees are lower than PayPal, so you might want to check that out, too. The 5 DVD set, plus downloads, is £50 (~$90 for over 18Gb of sample data). Okay, I'll stop sounding like an ad...

Layers: well, I'd like a full kit to fit into about 512Mb of RAM in sfz. (You have to allow 32bit sample depth when calculating RAM usage for sfz, btw...) Within that, as many as you can. If the sampler your targetting does disk streaming, of course, you can throw everything at it... :)

I've uploaded the sfz draft Kit 2 map:
GSCW-DrumKit-2

Again, like Kit 1, I intend to run this through a velocity layer smoothing session at some point. That will also make up for the fact the samples aren't normalised -- I should really have handled that already... but... well, this was quick'n'dirty!

More later. And thanks, Salvador, for making these kits free!

Just back here. THANKS from me too, Sascha, for all of this great work!!! And cheers, Giro...

So far as platinum goes, I'd also like to see separate samples for left and right snare hits!

Incidentally, I like the size of your kit: it's very similar to mine, especially if you go for the 16x18 kick.

And the custom snare is delicious!

Salvador, have you seen Battery 2 yet?
I'm not saying it's got to be *it*, but their approach to build natural sounding sets is really nice.
What they're doing is to sample each drum instrument with a variety of mics. So you got some overheads, room mics and whatever (for one big set they even sampled some "trash" mics).
These are all sorted in rows, you you can just select a row and turn the levels up/down easily.
FXpansions BFD seems to be doing things in a similar way, but it's more "under the hood".

Anyways, to me this is a very great approach. No need to look for any room reverb anymore, all you need to do is to turn up the room mic samples.

I've actually been fooling around with a similar approach, using your free kit #1's snare samples (for a test only). Been running them all through a short room reverb and "saved as", then I duplicated the snare and replaced the samples with the reverbed ones. Now, whenever I turn up the volume those cells, there's my reverb. Without any CPU hit. Of course this was done with a VST reverb (the one from Arts Acoustic), using true room mics would be way better.

As far as formats go, Battery 1 is a relatively save bet. Kontakt will load it, HALion will load it, DR-008 will load it and sfz files can be had easily from converting DR-008 files. Most likely other formats can be done pretty easy as well, but these are the ones I know of.

The 'Tchakpoum' kit (search in this forum, or check my post at Nusofting forum for my DK+ maps) is a great freely downloadable kit, which also uses this approach with room micing, providing overhead samples for several kit pieces. I like the approach very much as well, and I think it is a great idea for acoustic drumkit sample designers.

Okay, I've updated my mappings for Kit 1 and Kit 2 to allow for the unnormalised samples. And Kit 2 now ignores note off, like Kit 1 was already doing. The "smoothing" of velocity layers isn't so pressing, IMHO... ;-)

Post

Mmmmm... I went off to test out my mappings (y'know, post first, test later)... but I was having too much fun just playing these kits. They've fantastic! The flams... they just add so much to the feel! The range of sounds from each piece is nice, too. More on the hats/cymbals would be nice, though.

Anyway... Maybe normalised samples would be easier to deal with... But I think my mappings may be over-compensating or something. At full velocity, most of the kit hits 0dB quite hard on single hits, meaning the I get clipping when playing multiple hits...
<edit>
Mm, okay, so I have sfz output set to +6dB... maybe I don't need that...

Hi Guys,
This is such a large thread and so much updates to the versions and kits that my small head is quite confused.

:-o :o :-o :o

Could someone please make and update a webpage that would include links to all available versions and formats of these kits in a well organized manner.

Post

Easiest thing to do is to use the 'printable version' (link at bottom of page), and work 'Backwards'.. then you'll get the latest link for the version you want!

I made a (dodgy) RMIV file. If anyone wants it I can put it up somewhere.

Iwas playing with FPC in fruity loops 5, and was wondering if someone who knows what there doing could make a file for this, it has I think 16 layers of velosity, and an automatic velocity spread setting, I have only just started to learn this so I would not attempt it yet.

Thank you Giro for the drums.

And pljones I love you, the .sfz files are good enough for me.
