Just out of interest, why?
It's something that is obviously not understood by everyone. Let me put it to you this way, if someone told you that your 800USD steinberg key was invalid and deleted your account, would you be pissed? What a mind-f**k.......I'm still not over it.

Anyways, I'm not the only one.....but alas.......cubase is what I use  and It's what I'm going to use........till reaper gets better....... (ducks)
Hmmm, yes, I was aware that in the Pinnacle era especially a few people had problems like this. So sorry to hear you were one of them :(

But... it says a lot about Cubase that in spite of that you still use it

:o That'll be me, but it wasn't a racial comment, but more of a critique of the dominance of the coluor white in the presentation vidoes... Not the colour of the presenters skin... Anyway my comment was about the heavy german accent in the "Now that is so cool". The video seemed to be targeted at a young audience, and IMO failing epicly. It's quite funny, but not really in the way Steinberg wanted....
Oh sh*t - I totally misread your previous post then - big sorry

I agree it was funny, but.... as a potential customer I was struck by the impression that it was sincere. In the end when we buy into a product its good to know the people making it are ordinary geeks who care about their work, even if they are completely without charisma

Contrast with this, which is truly hilarious:

on a more serious note: what do you guys think about the quality of the fx in cubase?

i have no clue why, but people always reiterate that the cubase fx seem to be shit. granted, i'm just a hobbist with ambitions and not a sound engineer (and hence could never say whether a waves or cubase comp or so was used on a track), but i really like most of the basic cubase effects. also the modulation stuff and even some of the hall and distortion/amp sim algorithms. only the delays and eqs behave IMO a bit strange, but that's probably just because i'm not familiar enough to use them properly.
and i have to admit, mea culpa (i know i know, never use presets..), that i am totally overwhelmed with the flood of (partially) really usable (also track) presets.

Post

They are good. I use them more and more. For one thing, they are there and convenient. Especially the EQ which is well integrated.

The one I can't stand is the verbs, but in C5, the new reverance should be a huge upgrade.

Post

REVerence is indeed great imho. I'm using it now instead of Cakewalk/Voxengo's Perfect Space (a VST of which I have from my Sonar days...). I still need that for Live/Audition, but in Cubase it's definitely REVerence from now on.

I though that the Roomworks verb was based on Ambience? I love that verb, but I'm not impressed with Roomworks... at least yet. And tbh I probably won't spend the time with it anyway, as there are other verbs I already have that are obviously better.

The EQ in Cubase 5 is very good based on my early impressions. Sure, it's not as flexible as some out there, but I like it. And the presets are well worth trying/exploring too.

The Limiter doesn't work the way I expect it too... not sure where I am going wrong with that one, but not impressed. In fact I'm not yet convinced about the Dynamic effects in general... but perhaps they will be growers. The Multiband is an exception here though - I really like that one a lot, and its very easy to use too.

I agree that the audio track presets are very well done - an excellent job.

Not really tried the other effects yet.

Imho most are definitely above average, a few (EQ, Reverence, Cloner etc) are top quality. I tend to think of them as the equivalent of an SPX, easily good enough to do a pro job, but if you have Lexicon, Eventide, LA2s or similar at your disposal the SPX will get used less. In any case Steinberg gave them clear, unified GUIs and apparently much thought went into a suitable, reasonably complete set of parameters.
They're tools, not lifestyle items.
Mojo is not a good idea for onboard FX in a host, that's the domain of 3rd party plugins.
The only big omission is a sampler that can reliably load the essential formats (Kontakt, Halion, Giga, EXS and probably still AKAI).
So all in all I'd rate them 9 out of 10 seen as what they are, a rather complete set of tools bundled with a host.

I really like the delays, which is something that probably gets overlooked with all the options out there.

Also, did I mention how light all the fx (I guessing with the exception of reverence) are? If you worked inside the box with cubase, you'd be able to do an awful lot without killing system resources!

A good example for the sensible choice of parameters I mentioned.
How many highly regarded 3rd party delays don't even have HP/LP filters ?

The effects set included in cubase prior to v4 release was badly sub par, that is for sure...
:P

On the other hand, the current revamped line up of effects\channel eq is far better and very usable in general (with the dynamic category processors being particulate good and versatile, IMO).

That being said, the C5 new additional effects are of particularly hige quality...PitchShift - Pitch Correct and REVerence are just superb, even in comparison to some top 3rd party offerings...

True...and the ModMachine delay is F* brilliant, BTW!

The Amp Sim is one of Cubase's best kept secrets too.

And I know Roomworks has been slayed already as usual but IMO it can work as a good shallow verb on the Amp Sim or Studio Devil or any crunchy guitar sound for kind of a 70s feel. If you want lush, go elsewhere obviously.

Ok, so apparently there are project workspaces and global workspaces? Is that the case? I made a few workspaces last night in a throwaway project(I made it for tinkering around), but didn't save the project. Now they are gone today.
