Thanks, captain Obvious, but the bursts are there throughout the entire trial period, it's not something that appears after the trial has gone past the 10 day mark (after which it won't start at all unless you authorize). I have no problem with the concept as such, but IMO the excessive level is detrimental to evaluating the product.
It is supposed to happen AFTER the 10 day trial, that's our experience (in fact that's how we run our demos at 4- or 5-day trade shows :) )

You're doing something wrong, then.
IK Multimedia demo download page wrote:The demo is fully functional for a grace period of 10 days. After 10 days the demo will expire and will emit a random noise. After having installed the demo, when using the software, always click CANCEL on the Authorization Wizard. This is because this Demo cannot be Authorized, and will emit a small noise, from time to time, once the 10-day trial period has expired.

So the Vintage Metal Lead is not a 2203 at all, but a 1959?
Huh. OK. I suppose that makes more sense, since the AT2 British Tube Lead 1 is a JCM 800 2204 which can easily be turned into a 2203 by swapping out the 50W EL34 with the 100W EL34.
That's the spirit ! :D
Admit it, just like me you'd simply want to play that thing !
I guess a month or two won't kill us.

Well, it's not really an issue for me since I already have authorized installations of all the IK plugs, I just remembered those noises from before... but I guess I had the wrong idea about when they occur.

Has the betting pool opened up for how much IK will miss their release date by?

I think their best time so far is a mere 6 weeks late.
Their worst is 2½ years.

And Peter, while you're jumping in to point out IK Multimedia is doing better about that now and is really listening to their customers, maybe you could answer my question regarding the official word on individual models, and explain how adding new titles will work in the future. ;)

Post

Welllll... I didn't think the way new titles were to be added in the future was going to be part of the releases so I'll have to check on that but I think that's pretty much out of the bag.

Individual models? I have no idea which, I have an idea how they'll get to you, and refresh my memory if I missed any aspect of that. :)

I really didn't understand any of that answer.
I've seen people, including you, discuss adding individual models, but I must have missed the original source of that information. And what do you mean by "how they'll get to you"?
Are new additions to AT3 going to require downloading an AT3 update, a la X-GEAR, or will AT3 actually be able to load external modules?

Has IK started sending out upgrade emails for those of us who own multiple AT products?

Yeah, from the quotes it's hard to tell if it's just the $149 deal that's already being emailed of if owners of all the products will get anything additional off beyond that. Jeeze... it looks cool but I really don't wanna buy anything at the moment (esp. after the holidays)....

Post

I think pre-orders combined with IK's penchant for missing release dates is a volatile mix. But that's just me.

I'll pay the 199 if I have to and wait to demo it first. However, I've got a feeling this is a far more finished product than in the past. With Fender (which I don't think was too bad off the release date if at all) they had to keep in contact and get approval from them.

I got one, anyway.

Here's a lot of hype around the new product - well-deserved, no doubt.

The competition of the end-user and their money is really hard between the
manufacturers.
This leads to the armaments race of the new products. Of course we can
gain of this, we get better products. I must admit that the software designers are modern heroes, to my opinion. And the IK is one of the best.

But at the same time I can't help thinking that these guitar modelling plugins are already at the moment that sophisticated and versatile that the average user is using just a fraction of the features. Are we users more fascinated of the image of getting more and more and more every year than really USING the new possibilities in practise? If you use more time for buying new products than making music, there might be place for a serious soul searching regarding this question (anyway, I myself have recognized this danger).

I got myself the GR4, Amplitube2, Fender Amplitube, Metal, Hendrix and the SVX. Rationally the IK X-Gear offers all I neeed. But at the end of day, I will probably buy the AT3, too - sooner or later... I'm as weak as you other, guys.

A couple of questions to the IK concerning the new AT3:

- for those clients who own all the other Amplitube products before, what new
models, effects, presets and other feature the AT3 gives (how much is the
AT3 overlapping the other AT products)?
- will the X-Gear interface change with the AT3 (X-Gear2)?

I noticed IK now properly identifies the 1x8 Combo Modern cab as a Mesa/Boogie Subway Rocket (instead of "Subway Rocker"). But I'm still confused a bit because the Subway Rockets never came as 1x8 as far as I know. They were 1x10.

Am I mistaken?
