I was watching this guy, ste1428, videos "FL Studio Tutorials Beginner to PRO" and I have to say that I may look into FL again and see...
Definitely the approach and tools are way different then other systems and the videos are quite clear in showing some hidden possibilities. Just see them all if you can and are interested in a hands on tutorials and want to see more about FL before you state things like toy etc.

Well, the problem is as usual about image. Fruity Loops, what does that bring to mind? See, George Micheal, Michael Jackson or Elton John couldnt have Fruity Loops associated with them. The Pro tools name on the other hand projects the right kind of image. Apple and Logic ditto. None of it has much to do with quality.

Yup, FL studio has a serious image problem. Every time I read an interview with a producer who says he "doesn't like to talk about what gear he uses," I pretty much assume it's becasue they are using FL Studio or Reason. Both have reputations as being "not pro" so when guys get to the level where they are touring and doing interviews they often will try to hide the fact that they are making music with Fruity Loops. But there are a lot of FL Studio users out there at every level of the game, especially in hiphop.UltraJv wrote:Well, the problem is as usual about image. Fruity Loops, what does that bring to mind? On the other hand, Ableton Live has none of these image problems and it's cross platform to boot. What it has going for it is that in electronic music genres it's is the default pro app for live performance, so even if a producer doesn't use Ableton Live to record and produce their tracks, they often still use it in some capacity, hence the popularity. It used to be that every 15 year old kid who aspired to make dance music started out with a pirated copy of Fruity Loops. Now Ableton Live is taking over that role. Although, FL studio still seems to dominate for aspiring hiphop producers, which is a massive draw that you don't see represented much here on KVR.

I don't think FL is a Fisher-Price type of thing...
Now, if you really want Fisher-Price looks and sound...there is...

Couldn't agree more - the only worse looking DAW was Tracktion.luxgud wrote:FL Studio is technically brilliant but packaged like a Fisher Price toy.
Now the proud owner of an avid 11 Rack, Running Pro Tools 10.3.3 - for me it's heaven!

I actually kind of liked Traction's GUI. They went a bit overboard on the colors, but it was easy to tweak it to your liking. Other than the color explosion problem it was clean, easy to look at , and highly functional.strangedogs wrote:Couldn't agree more - the only worse looking DAW was Tracktion.luxgud wrote:FL Studio is technically brilliant but packaged like a Fisher Price toy.
My vote for worst looking DAW goes to the default skins on early versions of REAPER. It looks great now, but that version 1 GUI was atrocious. Looking at it today, you would think it was some kind of ancient Windows 95 app, except it was released in 2006:
