Everything on my computer that has anything to do with sending out MIDI doesn't work.

In Studio 1 v2.5 64 bit it just crashes
On Cubase 6.5 64-bit the notes hang.

I can actually use it in Cubase 6.5 but not to control another synth directly, I just have to "imagine" the sound then bounce to Midi then use the MIDI to control the synth.

But almost everything that puts out midi is glitchy here, no idea why.

When I print Arpeggios I always get something like this:

I can fix this with delete overlap in Cubase, but why is it happening?

There is a 64-bit update in the Cthulhu forum (1.01 beta, sticky thread at top) that will fix that!

The timing recording to another track in StudioOne is perfect. Presonus has said that their realtime MIDI has jitter which is a known issue. Not sure if that is the same thing you're experiencing, but the crash is certainly an issue already fixed.

That seemed to fix it. No crashes, real time play works fine and it even prints properly!

I think this is the first time I've had success with a plug-ins midi output!

It's a very different experience using it on a plug-in like Sylenth1 with a custom made sound!

Thanks! Happy as a Clam!

One question though, to create my own chord library is it enough to enter a midi piece and Cthulhu does the rest or do I have to enter chords one by one? I guess the manual answers that. I should read it :)

I haven't tried it with a midi clip yet, but it basically just adds another key to the mapping as each chord is heard, so whether you play it in realtime 'by hand' as I have or it comes in a midi stream, it will make a new chord map for each coming in as it is learning. I would imagine the results will depend on how clean the midi file is.

Will there be a demo soon? I'm just waiting for that before buying it, can't wait! But if it's gonna be a while i might just take the plunge. :)

hey guys,

I bought Cthulhu and it seems very powerful for getting chord ideas, something i struggle with as a beginner.

My question is, how would i go about getting Cthulhu to output chords that are the same key as the note i input? I know a note just activates a chord slot which can be anything, but I want to be able to write root notes in key and have the chords from Cthulhu still in key, otherwise im not sure how i make use of the plugin with my beginner musical knowledge!

Thanks for any tips / help / advice on this!

You never have to enter them one-by-one, both the Learn switch and the MIDI Import will make it more automated.

Cthulhu's MIDI import works very much like the "Learn" Button (just faster, since you don't have to play it at host BPM): it looks for a note on, and adds additional notes to the "chord" until it sees all of those notes off. Once all notes are off, will advance to the next chord slot. Most MIDI Files don't just consist of "block chords" so very often for best results you should import the MIDI File in to your host, get the chords you want, delete melody or extra notes, and export a MIDI File. Then that exported MIDI file will import into Cthulhu, with more the results you would probably want.

my estimate is 5 days, the bugs are the priority (and it makes sense to fix those prior to a demo).

Cthulhu will tell you what chords you are playing, you can always transpose the output material (after, or with the Output transpose at the top) to get the chords in the root key you want. Of course Cthulhu isn't a replacement for music theory, but between its ability to analyze and display what chord is playing, and the ability to transpose, hopefully it will be a time-saver (with that said the purpose of the plugin isn't to just be a time-saver, but more a source of inspiration for chords and stuff you wouldn't come up with otherwise).

Most of the Chorales are diatonic so they really are in a key, you just need to be able to "hear" what chord feels like the root ("home chord") and then see what chord that is on Cthulhu's display (e.g. D Minor) and then transpose the master output to the key you want (e.g. if you want E minor then +2 on the master transpose).

Additional chord presets and content will appear in the Cthulhu registered user forum which may be of more benefit to you (no promises on when, but do check the Cthulhu forum periodically for updates!)

Hope this helps!

Would be great if we had a thread where we could share presets that we create.

Just a quick heads-up 1.01b4 is up in the Cthulhu user forum on www.xferrecords.com - with a handful of fixes for the most common issues!

Now it seems to be playing up again, spitting out notes constantly. Or it crashes entirely...
