I've always liked sarus, I have no idea why lol. The sound in 2 is better than 1 and the classic patches sound exactly the same. The analog / digital engines are pretty amazing too.
While it has an incredible range of sounds it can emulate, I think I have a soft spot for it since it can do so many of those hybrid and early digital sounds so easy... Juno's, dw8000 (minus the dwgs) etc.
Imagine if this could load SFZ, wav or something.. Wow.

I would have bought it long ago if it had anything like that.MetroSonus wrote:I've always liked sarus, I have no idea why lol. The sound in 2 is better than 1 and the classic patches sound exactly the same. The analog / digital engines are pretty amazing too.

I see... so maybe I'd better focus on another synth - thanksfluffy_little_something wrote:It ships with lots of presets and there are various sound sets available already covering everything possible with that relatively simple synth...

I see there's no specific ambient/atmospherics soundset, which is what Tone2 normally asks me to do, but I wonder if the owners of this synth would be interested?fluffy_little_something wrote:Mac of BIOnighT wrote: Here is a list of what is already available:

We'll see, when the time comes, maybe I'll ask Markus for advice.... for now I'm toying with the idea of an Elektra-only album plus soundset, but that'll have to wait till I have some time, I'm afraid...

At the risk of spouting total cliches, you should do what YOU like. If other people like it, you have a unique and marketable product, probably lots of them. If you do what some random set of KVR-ers (think they) want, you might sell to those 5 people, but who knows about the rest of the world, and if it doesn't bang YOUR thingy it's not a big life win anyway.Mac of BIOnighT wrote:Hey, my soundset for Nemesis is only 29 euros https://tone2.com/html/ambientica.html shameless plug ;-P
If I can ask, should I decide to make one for Saurus, what kinds of sounds would you like (apart from dance/club/dubstep/etc, which I do not do)?

Very wise and true, and that's what I always do, but sometimes I seem to forget... thank you for reminding medwozzle wrote: At the risk of spouting total cliches, you should do what YOU like. This is what I do. I've never made a soundset to please other people. If I did, I'd probably hate what I'm doing.dwozzle wrote:At the risk of spouting total cliches, you should do what YOU like. Right now I'm working on a Dune 2 set that I can guarantee is not going to be the same old same old supersaw, wub-wub, blah, blah, blah fair. If people like it, great. If not, at least I enjoyed putting it together and it's a set that I'll use for the music I make.
Of course, this isn't always the best business decision but in the long run, I think it's what most designers will be most happy doing unless they're really just in it for the money.

Exactly (thanks), that's why I occasionally fall into that kind of thinking... however, Tone2 always let me entirely free to follow my instinct and always supported my ideas, so I guess I should shake off that kind of business mentality and do what I dojsp1979 wrote:Mac is probably talking about a bank that Tone2 will sell from their site. So, there are other considerations here (including what type of bank they're looking to sell).

One of these days, one of these days, I might be getting to the point where my soundsets start to be as good as you guys....Mac of BIOnighT wrote:Exactly (thanks), that's why I occasionally fall into that kind of thinking... however, Tone2 always let me entirely free to follow my instinct and always supported my ideas, so I guess I should shake off that kind of business mentality and do what I dojsp1979 wrote:Mac is probably talking about a bank that Tone2 will sell from their site. As a previous owner for Saurus1 i will say that it is more than capable of covering many basic tones very well. I thought it was wonderful for doing classic style synth brass sounds!
The gui is designed in a very straight forward "idiot proof" manner which might be insulting to some, but i feel it is like that to appeal to a mainstream audience. This and their over the top marketing might throw some off too. I personally think their programmer is very good at DSP design though.
One thing i remember with my experience was how stable saurus was! It also ran with very low CPU so i could use it too fill gaps along side my more DSP hungry analog emulated synthesizers.
That said all of the Tone2 stuff is great, but you will either love it, hate it, or like it and find other products to fill the gaps you feel they lack.

The more complicated stuff is hidden in the matrix

Whether it's the complicated stuff or not, I definitely find that the oscillator variations and interrelations give me a bunch of interesting stuff I like and don't hear all the time. Cool stuff.

You have to start from being as sexy, that's always the first step, then the rest comes easy ;-Ptrimph1 wrote: One of these days, one of these days, I might be getting to the point where my soundsets start to be as good as you guys....
