Okay ... given the above comments on my first attempt at a new track, I have re-arranged and re-mixed and uploaded a brand new version. I hope you can hear a difference.

The drums ARE in time( I've checked carefully)- the guitar lead is a wee bit syncopated and pushed a little. The snare hit though is on the 3, so perhaps this is "confusing" people!

Enjoy, again,

dB

The new mix is a bit better but the underlying problems are still there.

The problem with the drums verses the melody is that they don't follow the same shuffle making everything seem out of time. "I've checked" is not an excuse :) Listen to the melody and drums together, sorry but they're not in time, or at least not the same time.
Could we also hear it without the pad/organ? I enjoy the guitarish plucking but that organ, I'm afraid, is ruining the mood...

I think you need to take a step back, deconstruct this a bit, perhaps kill a few darlings along the way. See how the instruments interplay just two or three at a time. In my opinion an arrangement like this is all about supporting the melody and so far it fails in doing so.

I feel bad about calling it "unlistenable" but I know you can do this so much better!

Post

Not making excuses - just saying how it is - with the snare hit on 3 vs everything else, yes, the perc maybe sounds odd - I can change that (not wrong, no excuse - but I take it fine that to other ears it's not right :( )

This version was a go at doing something - but, yup, I'll take it down and start again. Decided to do that already as it happens - you just confirmed my own feelings.

Cheers,

dB

PS Check your PM's mehum - a link to a different mix altogether ... comments very welcome ...

Goodness! I've been slacking of quite a bit. Well... If you call college work and university applications slacking off... But still, I need to do more work on my OSC as well!
It's very tasty, I swear!

A little late in the game, is there a way to have the MIDI pitch bend range increased to 12 semitones?

No, sorry, that seems impossible...

I figured... thought I would ask; thanks. :)

This is to announce my submission to the challenge:
https://soundcloud.com/constructed-id/c ... -ginormous
It was made in Sonar 8 (8.1)
Track one: OXE with Thrillseeker XTC Blue
Track two: OXE with Sonitus FX compressor
Track three: OXE with Bootsy Rescue AE; ToneBoosters EZQ
Track four: a frozen OXE that is sliced up and Sonatis FX delay
Track five: OXE with Sonatis: FX delay
The one bus send has Variety of Sound Epicverb

There are five tracks muted, two have samples, one is Sygnus SF-1, one is u-he ACE, one is u-he Triple Cheese. They are mostly just because I love the variety but the submission is the core of the song.
Let me know if there is something else I should include in this post as this is my first contest entry on KVR.

Edit : seems a drone noise needed lowpass, did not listen too loud, just checked and have hopefully fixed.

It is an honor for me to listen your track in beta stage. As I had mentioned in my PM, this is an example of your kindness that you chose me, the less experienced, to listen your track critically. It was already a well made track.

Actually, I had enjoyed it so much that I do not have words to express. It was fun, really.

Thanks for choosing me.

The final output is a solid, powerful contender in the contest. Best of luck for being part of toppers league again. :tu:

Was not feeling this one to be honest.

Other plugins such as Fruity Reeverb 2, Fruity Parametric EQ 2, Fruity Compressor and Fruity Delay Bank were used.

I could've done so much better, but I just can't be bothered as of now.

Hi there, just whenever you have the final done, just make an informative post about the number of OXE instances used, what host used, all the other plugins used specifically (as only host-provided and freeware plugins are allowed).

Also, just to make sure you know, samples are not allowed in OSC, you need to make all the sounds with the synth. You're also not allowed to sample the synth and put it in a sampler, although if you need to for CPU reasons you can bounce entire tracks to audio.

Cheers for the submission so far, can't wait to hear the final!

You're underselling yourself, this is pretty damn good.
