Mmhhh, i use version 1.1.1 without problems on macOS Sierra, Logic Pro X (beside a few crash when i close the GUI sometimes).wickfut wrote:hmm , latest version only plays in mono?

Just received an email from the devs , they're releasing a fix for cubase mono thingy sometime around the 10th jan.
can anyone link me to the first version for windows 64? The dev sent me a link which cuts out 3/4 of the way through

I would really like to demo this before I will buy because I have Falcon and Cubase padshop pro and GRM tools granular.

I think the developers working on a demo (at least they said it)....but not sure when it will be available.Noise forFiction wrote:I would really like to demo this before I will buy because I have Falcon and Cubase padshop pro and GRM tools granular.
I only have Falcon from these but they are working totally different and can´t be compared really.
So how i said, don´t expect it to be a load in a sample and ready to play kind of granular synth (at least not until the FX version is ready....maybe).
It´s all about the flow field and binaural effect (for me at least).
This thing seems focus more on rythmic stuff and FX but it´s also usable for more if you dive in. So textures, pads, drones are possible but might be harder to achieve with this compared to the other granular options out there.

I reported the same bug - they didn't notice me. And waiting until 10th January?wickfut wrote:Just received an email from the devs , they're releasing a fix for cubase mono thingy sometime around the 10th jan.

Is it possible to produce specific pitches with the emitters and combine them into predictable chords for pads?
Is melody possible?
OT: Checking out TimeFlux video; is the constant pad in the background of the video just video background sound? It really interferes with the sounds you are demoing IMHO.

In theory yes but it´s not so easy maybe. There is a seperate pitch control for each of the emitters but it won´t show you exact notes, so you have to morph trough your positions in the sound sample itself and play your notes there in original pitch, or you make some clever modulations via scales the included scales f.e. There are a lot of scales available inside Dust.Musical Gym wrote:Is it possible to produce specific pitches with the emitters and combine them into predictable chords for pads?

Like i said you won´t load a sample and play then your chords of choice via a midi keyboard.
You also can tune it without a scale of course but you have to make it by ear then.
The thing is when you change a pitch all particles of the emitter will change the pitch. So also the already released and still decaying particles of that emitter will change the pitch. I would love to have the pitch change just with new particles while the decaying still hold the "older" pitches.
So the pitch control is mono per emitter, like you would tune an OSC. Of course you have 8 emitters and each emitter can have a different scale, modulation and whatever.
Dust can do some awesome things like modulate the pitch (without or inside a scale) per particle via different parameters as well. Means the flow field can change the pitch (and a lot other things) while the particles are flowing. It´s like you would have some extremly complex multi-stage envelopes.
It´s all a bit hard to describe (my english sucks....sorry) and you really need sometimes work to get where you want with Dust but i LOVE it this way.
It´s just a very different kind of granular synth.
Like i also said, i tryed tools where i load in a sample and play it via midi notes like a normal pitched synth and i tryed other more generative or semi-generative tools.
This is something between.
Together with the iPad Borderlands Granular app (which is for me maybe the most advanced in terms of overlaying, crossfade samples, grain clouds and a lot more all on one screen on the fly....i wish someone would compile the open source code as VST/AU) this is my favourite granular tool now.
I like more the creative granular things rather than those more "normal" granular synths.
Uuhhhh, sorry for the long boring post. I`m just happy with this plug-in, even when it has still a few little bugs and the FX version is not ready yet. But how i said, i´m a sucker for this kind of unique tools.
Edit: Maybe best to wait for the demo (but the sale might ended before....or it is yet?).
So if you want me to try some specific things in the meantime i would like to try since i have a few days off and don´t know what to do

Thanks for details, I appreciate it!
I think sale is almost over; I like TimeFlux also and there is a bundle with Dust, TimeFlux, and some more, but even with sale the bundle is a bit too expensive right now.
I need to calculate purchase(s) and decide since I have other stuff I want to get at other sales.
Your information is very helpful and your English is fine.

Here is another little preset i made. 2 emitters used, i use 2 of the default samples (atonal, glass drops like things). I used here pitch modulation (without scale) on both with slightly different settings which is set to the distance of the center of the flow field.
I used a custom algorithm for the flow field.
I also loaded a custom wav (2 bell chords) into the convolver.
There are a few other modulations as well.
I just let the sequencer play at 120bpm, so in this case it´s an example of a generative texture.

Interesting; definite minor chord changes.

Which comes mainly from the convolution reverb here.Musical Gym wrote:Interesting; definite minor chord changes.
Ideed i was wrong about the pitch change. I had the envelopes a bit short so the particles decay was almost over when i changed the pitch.
I tryed a few very long sustain and decaying particles and played it manual via midi keys.
The decaying particles WILL stay on the pitch even when i hit new ones with another.
You also can set it too full key range so it can be played "nearly" as a normal instrument.
I will have to investigate more tomorrow.

Nothing to thank`s!Musical Gym wrote:I'm getting more interested now, thanks for sharing.
I tryed it now to "play" with a synth side by side and when you succeded to get the Dust emitter in tune (you have to do that by hand and ear) you can set it to manual and full midi note range as modulation of pitch (scale off).
Then you could play chromatic just along with the other instruments.
It´s even more interesting if you have them slighty detuned!
Uhhh, 3 o´clock in the morning here.....time to sleep. Time is flowing
