Hey Sleek, do you remember an up&coming band named Sister Shotgun - ever cross paths?

I think mine would have to be Smashing Pumpkins version of "Jackie Blue" (Lots of billy's old stuff were very good) or else Joe satriani's "Crushing Day"(main solo).

Saturday night live, Point/Counterpoint.

perhaps Loudness was added after, but I will check with my friends...I could of been wasted, but I did see Loudness, it was at the centrum and I know for a fact that I never saw ACDC...I am a bit of a fan now, then I was far from it.

Maybe more of my disatisfaction of eddie comes from the split, I like eddie and I like sammy...I don't like them together, and the poppy oberhiems rubbed me the wrong way.

However seeing how you seem not to be too familar with Gary Moore you could be in for a treat. Get collusium...I take you like guitar synths Gary Moore was big on the synth ax, I got an old video of him explaining it as the guitar of the future...

to clarify: the sister shotgun in the LA scene in the 80's (I think it was sister...)

btw the above theory holds true for almost every band I like. There are some Gary Moore albums I don't like. I saw Maiden 9 times but after 7th son Bruces (who many say I look like) voice was beyond shot. Judas Priest after Screaming went downhill. I saw them but didn't care for the new whitesnake, but love the old stuff. HMMMM now I can't remember who opened for them, it was at the centrum. I don't care for most sabbath, only the dio stuff, but I love every ozzy album. Scorpions never let me down, the Stones did, Alice Cooper did, Ritchie Blackmore did (Deep Purple with Steve Morse was awesome). Basically I don't feel obligated to like (or hate) someone forever I guess..

Who does?

In any case, regarding Eddie and open tunings-- he doesn't record much with them, but he's a big fan. One of his favourite gizmos ever is the TransTrem.

my half brother bought one (the original) he sold it to rod stewarts guitar player, they are building a lite version...I have spoke with him (the owner of transperformance) recently, I'm gonna build a Warmoth strat (I love warmoth necks) with a scalloped neck, transperformance is finishing it tobaco sunburst, I'm on the waiting list...I figure around the first of the year.

It's a god-awful hunk of equipment stuck on your guitar, but not as much as the original.

And for the trade-off in benefits, I'd get in line for one, too.

yeah but three words....never tune again... :hihi: Fwiw my half brother all told with the cost of the Les Paul and transperformance spent right around 5k that was about 7-8 years ago. He sold it for 2900...sucker...it's ok he's an ass...he owes me a ton of money, truly I don't want it...it keeps him away :x :x Mine works out to just under 2k, but the transperformance is just half of that. I like EMG's and my neck alone will be close to 400.

I was gonna do a Warmoth doubleneck 6/6 one hardtail, like mine now...one with a rose...that was until Neil told about the lite version.

Hmmm...all this talk about guitar solos and no mention of Shawn Lane? You want to be embarrassed to think you can play, go listen to this cat.

I think the best emotional type solos are

Steve Hillage - Palm Trees (Love Guitar) from Green
Jeff Beck - Another Place from Who Else

I think Jeff Beck is one of the best solo players for wringing tone and voicings out of a guitar.

A giant pile of shit most likely. We can all be just happy he didn't do it.
The last thing the Stones ever needed was some soulless widdling.
That's why it was a good idea for Mr. Taylor to leave them too (he's a good player but didn't do anything good to their music).
Look at Steve Morse, how many years in a row did he win the Magazine "Guitar" guitarist of the year?
SM is a great technician but his vibrato is soulless.

And btw, hink, in case you want a serious advice (and yes, I am serious about it): Before spreading your wisdom about what is "tricks" and what isn't, you should eventually care about your own playing first. The phrasing could need a LOT of improvement (I've listened to three tracks from your site and all of them seem to prove me).
Oh yes, I'm being nasty again, but hey... I don't like meaningless noodling - it has to be phrased cool! And that's what ALL the great players have in common, regardless whether they're playing one note solos or endless widdlings: They got SOUL and MEANING in their phrasing!
And IMO Eddie van Halen is kickass in terms of being funky (yes, FUNKY) and phrasing like almost nobody else. George Benson is as well, Dave Gilmour too - THAT's what makes them outstanding.

I could go into the details of phrasing if anybody likes (I invested endless hours trying to analyze why one would think something would be "cool"), just not for the next two weeks as I'm leaving for some camping tour tomorrow.
But then, maybe it's just not that important - and maybe it's even better to keep them secrets to the ones that know them anyways.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
