I knew about the amazing, lush stuff and super ambient big verbs, but the thing I was most impressed/surprised about is how good the bread-and-butter verbs are in BS- Room, Hall, Plate and Spring are very good and have plenty of controls...they could replace a lot of the reverbs I have as go to basic verbs...
Megneto machine (multi-head echo) deserves a special mention as well, I have the Volante hardware pedal and they have really nailed the magnetic tape delays.

Hi
I think the proof of that is when Rob Papen quickly dropped the switch over to the same or similar c/p and lost substantial sales, resulting in a return to their previous c/p.
At the price point this is not particularly appealing to the 'hobbyist' so who knows, perhaps that was a reason for the iLok?
Interestingly Steinberg's recent change in c/p seems to be a drive to bring in more sales, whilst 'relaxing' the c/p.
ILok does seem to be a statement that you are buying into a 'pro' product - and I get that many 'mobile' professional's appreciate the flexibility of the product to be used on a variety of set up's.
The whole landscape of software purchasing has become so diverse these day's that you can never look at a product without first checking out how the vendor is marketing/selling/protecting the product - I recently came across that great looking Universal Audio synth (Opal) only to realise it is 'attached' to some subscription service.
So in summary I have to thank these companies really, because if they were all using a good old serial number my bank account would be f..... up!!!!
Didn't mean to get into the whole c/p thing again.....
Not sure I agree with that one - IMO iLok probably looses a company substantial sales due to how many people refuse to use such a c/p.Leras wrote: No. iLok has proven to be a solid copy protection system for developers. It's pretty unobtrusive also. Makes perfect sense people would choose to us it.

You need iLok for Eventide, Sonnox, UVI, Softube, Soundtoys etc, now Moog and Stymon …Way too much good stuff uses iLok so for me its unavoidable.

Worth stating too that for Strymon and most (all?) of those you list, no physical dongle is necessary.SLiC wrote: Sat Oct 22, 2022 3:04 pm You need iLok for Eventide, Sonnox, UVI, Softube, Soundtoys etc, now Moog and Stymon …Way too much good stuff uses iLok so for me its unavoidable.
I forgot to deactivate my Eventide, Soundtoys etc from an old hard drive and the companies sorted me out within a couple of days on my soft iLock. Maybe not my first choice of solution but it works.
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

My PC O/S was screwed and no backups worked so I had to do a fresh install of Windows and it was just a few clicks to request a reset on software iLok to get those lost licenses back. Took a few days, but got them all back within a week IIRC. I’d prefer no copy protection hassles, but iLok’s not too bad IMO.revvy wrote: Sat Oct 22, 2022 3:36 pm I forgot to deactivate my Eventide, Soundtoys etc from an old hard drive and the companies sorted me out within a couple of days on my soft iLock. That's why I stick to the dongles. I've got 2 iLok dongles, my computers never leave the house so they're fairly unobtrusive, and you don't have to worry about an OS or system failure creating a headache. But, I did have an iLok2 recently start acting up, so replaced it before it went bad.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sat Oct 22, 2022 3:47 pm My PC O/S was screwed and no backups worked so I had to do a fresh install of Windows and it was just a few clicks to request a reset on software iLok to get those lost licenses back. It's an added expense, but worth it when you've got hundreds of iLok dongles and aren't traveling or worried about dongle theft

I am at all times concerned about donkey theft. It's a real problem, even for non-donkey-havers there should be at least a minimum of concern for one's fellow man and their right to have their donkeys remain in their possession.

Late to the party it seems. Is there something that BigSky excels at?
I remember pedal shopping and not being impressed because of plug-ins that were already great. Now this is a plug-in… so, I’m finding that strange.
