Came across this comparison. I'd have to say that my order of sound preference is
ABL3
Phoscyon 2 / Roland Cloud
Acid V

My thoughts exactly , abl still rules after all these years
Altough he demoed engine 2 of abl3.3 , I prefer engine 1 which has a slightly lower cpu footprint .
Lately I even been using the old abl2 engine in abl 3 , it still sounds fantastic .
Phoscyon 2 is great too , arturia ..perhaps a good plugin but as a pure 303 emu it’s the weakest of them all.

With resonance cranked the Acid V sounds like it's missing an octave in the low-end ? worst of the bunch imoEchoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 5:51 pm Came across this comparison. I'd have to say that my order of sound preference is

It's kind of sad because I tried the sequencer and distortion effects and other and they're amazing
Maybe I'll upgrade just to get all the modulation options but the sound is a bit disapointing...
ABL3 is king

Sounds like cheating with an EQ ? do the other emulations do that ?egbert101 wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:24 pm It's a matter of preference. But, doesn't Acid V have a Bass Boost option?

ABL3 has a parameter to adjust the bass. But, it's pretty subtle, and probably more of a case of adjusting the sound to different 303 models.Bulbizarre wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:25 pmSounds like cheating with an EQ ? do the other emulations do that ?egbert101 wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:24 pm It's a matter of preference. I would agree that ABL3 is probably (according to what I heard in sound demos and comparisons) the closest to the real deal in software. It's not perfect IMO, but, it does what it does best.
Dunno, if you need the real thing, the Behringer TD-3 might be the best option. Although you sacrifice the advantages of in-the-box then, of course.

True. I don't see it as cheating either.
If anything, then the devs are cheating when they adjust the sound of their synths.

Just modelling the removal of the high pass filter capacitor in the real thing.Bulbizarre wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:25 pmSounds like cheating with an EQ ? do the other emulations do that ?egbert101 wrote: Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:24 pm It's a matter of preference. I got this mod done on my X0XB0X Tb-303 clone, and it makes it rival a MInimoog and SH-2 in bass now
Tb-303 is usually a nasally sounding thing with the high pass filter in.

I might be in minority here and it's just my opinion, but as much as I love the hardcore fans of the 303 and their passion of getting as close as possible to the original, the 303 isn't the only thing that captures the acid sound. It's more like this special combination of a simple synth engine, the sequencer and the way it handles glides, accents and glides+accents.
Again, just my own opinion, the Roland TB3 is one of the worst modern examples of something that wants to ride on the popularity of the 303 and misses the mark completely. It's a useful synth in its own right for sure, but as a 303 - absolutely not. It just feels lifeless and dull. Something that for me came out from the left field completely under the radar, was the Behringer Crave. A pretty simple synth with nothing crazy to write home about - until you use the built in sequencer. Damn that thing absolutely rocks. No 303 clone for sure, but oh does it capture the acid vibe really well.

wow, i love that sound !
i´ve bought all 3 in short time.
ABL3:
Overall, best sound for my taste of all the three.
The pattern handling kind of ruins it for me for daily fiddling + playing.
I mean for quick, just load this or that one, and have some fun playing and fiddling with it.
It requires (for me) a more focussed "i have some time + 303 lust" atmosphere.
(so, use is right now way smaller than could have been )
Arturia V:
the FX section, and so many presets (over-)using it,
plus: The FX mute button not midi-mappable (unreported to host) , plus, the stock presets not overwriteable, makes it quasy impossible to even just dig thru all the presets, and to get to know it better. It just turns me off.
A midi mappable FX-mute button would have been a ok workaround.
Or a quicksave = overwrite for the given presets.
As is: its quasi ruined for me. 303-Lust killer / F.ck the FX
I think it would be a absolutely welcome addition to the ABL3, otherwise.
had too short a time with the Phoscyon2 to comment.
my initial feel tells me i might like the access to it more.....i just need to regain my 303 Lust, haha.
soundwise definitly also a welcome addition.
my take out:
i don´t care too much for the sound subtleties if the plugins have been screwed otherwise.
Don´t blow up a 303 sound with stupid FX ! ( or at least place "those presets" in special preset folders)
"Plugin has turned Drug now"....and the business knows it.

Not the sort of sound I usually go for, but still impressive all the same.

It's a crime really. I've had this for a couple of months and I haven't had the chance to check it. Life has just been playing one of its harsh, cruel games at the moment.
Here's hoping ill get some time over the next week or two!!
