Free FM Synthesizer Dexed (VST Windows and Mac)

OPS7 is absolutely worth buying. Dexed doesn't emulate DX7 perfectly, certain patches don't port exactly, whereas they do in OPS7.

Is the DX7’ notorious glissando/portamento implemented in OPS7? I don’t know any emulation yet that implemented that.

Has anyone done a rigorous test against Dexed and DX7 V?

I use Dexed FM synthesizer a lot, purchased commercial version on iPad, and i use free version on PC/Mac. Compared it to Yamaha DX200 (fm desktop synth, 100 % compatible with DX7, realtime controls), kx Dixie, NI FM7/8 and Kurzweil Forte (build-in FM engine). It have same little bit dirty sound with aliasing as original, so it have that certain spirit. Only thing that disturb me is user interface, ok original DX7 is brown, but that UI is kinda boring (lame typography, so-so separation between blocks...) so i took printscreen in HD resolution and did new "skin"/UI in Photoshop. From all instruments i have i really like Novation Supernova blue design, so i did it in deep blue color with cobalt surface and controls in more colours (inspired by coloured chocolate dots M&M's), some colours are matched, as EG Level/Rate, Pitch EG Level/Rate, first ones are more desaturated.

What do you think it is good?

everytime i use Dexed and saves a preset, reloads the project it resets to the default patch. sure i can always load my saved preset but it is a bit annoying. Is this the case for anyone else?

Not for me. When I save an edited preset using the default "STORE" action in Dexed ("Store program to DAW plugin song state"), I can close the project, re-open it, and have that edited preset pulled up in Dexed. It works the same way all my other VSTis work.

Are you using the latest VST3 version (0.9.6)?

Not for me. When I save an edited preset using the default "STORE" action in Dexed ("Store program to DAW plugin song state"), I can close the project, re-open it, and have that edited preset pulled up in Dexed. It works the same way all my other VSTis work.

Which DAW are you using, and do you have any similar problems saving .FXP files within the DAW?

The latest version of Dexed is the VST3 version, 0.9.6. There doesn't seem to be much changed from the previous .VST2 version, but I don't think that was a 32-bit version, anyway. I'll check when I'm back at my DAW.

The latest version of Dexed is the VST3 version, 0.9.6. There doesn't seem to be much changed from the previous .VST2 version, but I don't think that was a 32-bit version, anyway. I'll check when I'm back at my DAW.

Check out Woodys Piano Shack great because he plays them side by side so you can make up your own mind based on the sound and workflow.
