Avast gave a warning when uninstalling the nightly build (Surge-NIGHTLY-2021-01-23-4f7fddc).
Windows Defender (Win 10) didn't want to install 1.8.1.
Other than that, everything seems ok here. I loaded up a Reaper project with 4 instances of the nightly build, Reaper replaced them with the new build, kept the presets and skins and size, no problem. Good, creamy sounds. Well done, folks.

Unfortunately I'm not webmaster ..I only know there are some newsletters service like the one used by BPB (mailerlite) or mailchimpbaconpaul wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:32 pmSo as evil said, we update the KVR page and you can subscribe to that.Clem4 wrote: Wed Jan 27, 2021 10:19 am would be cool if you could add a newsletter form on your surge website to inform us about updates
But also: That's a neat idea! Everything in Surge happens, though, because someone who thinks it is a neat idea decides to do it! We have people who spend a lot of time on the manual, on skins, on the DSP, on the code, and on patches. So if this idea really inspires you, you are welcome to join the team and do it! Just hop onto discord, join the team (there's no application process other than 'don't be rude') and lets figure it out!
but it must be possible for free with some scripts php

Yeah this will always happen due to antivirus heuristics (the file is "not downloaded enough" to be trusted etc.). Just disregard or whitelist the file and all good.Bojo34 wrote: Thu Jan 28, 2021 10:15 am Avast gave a warning when uninstalling the nightly build (Surge-NIGHTLY-2021-01-23-4f7fddc).

Did you use the zip or the installer?planetearth wrote: Thu Jan 28, 2021 5:29 am FWIW, Surge 1.8.1 said the Lato font wasn't installed and that installing Surge again should fix it...but it didn't. I downloaded it from https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Lato. Was that where I was supposed to get it? It isn't in any of the Surge folders as far as I could see.
I know it's been mentioned once or twice in the 133 pages of this thread, but it just seemed easier to grab it from Google's site. If I was supposed to get it from somewhere else, please let me know.
And this is for the installed version of Surge (on Win7/x64), not the "portable" (or whatever it was) version that wouldn't normally install the font. (I vaguely remember something about that being mentioned in the thread too.)
Thanks.

This one is really cool! The Nerdy Music Guy wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 4:48 pm Here is a silly thing! The whole thing is just one single long note from one instance of Surge with a bunch of macro automation:

What's the best method to update a portable installation?
I installed 1.8.0 and followed the folder suggestions in the manual to change it to portable. Now I want to upgrade to 1.8.1.

Overwrite plugin file(s), trash the whole factory data folder and copy stuff from the ZIP anew.

The 1.8.1 installer, directly from the site. And as I mentioned, if the font was in one of the folders Surge created, I couldn't find it. But manually finding, downloading and installing the font worked for me.baconpaul wrote: Thu Jan 28, 2021 1:19 pmDid you use the zip or the installer?planetearth wrote: Thu Jan 28, 2021 5:29 am FWIW, Surge 1.8.1 said the Lato font wasn't installed and that installing Surge again should fix it...but it didn't. That said, there are plenty of sites that purport to offer the "Lato" font (along with hundreds of other "free fonts"), and some seem a bit shady. I got mine directly from Google. Not sure why your installer didn't install it either time I tried, but it might be nice to show people they can get the font directly from https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Lato so that they don't have to try to find it on their own. (Might also be nice to let them know which style(s) they need, so they don't install all 10 if they only need two or three.)

"A line to install the font"...was that something that was supposed to display before (or during) the installation, or just at the end when the font didn't get installed? Because I didn't see anything until the installation finished, when I was notified the font didn't install and that I should re-install Surge.baconpaul wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:13 am Huh the installer has a line to install the font. I wonder what happened? Will try it on a system without lato installed before 1.8.2. to double check. Thanks.
