the only thing i dont like about the glue is how narrow the stereo image is compared to Logic, and Waves SSL

Thanks! I definitely recommend buying some good analog hardware in the long run as you can get some amazing sounds out of them - but it can get quite expensive. The Glue will hopefully still be a staple in production since you can load multiple instances and all the other benefits of being a plugin.ekwipt wrote:congrats Andy, i've been using the demo on my stuff and basically passed on the IKmedia as i thought this and my logic plugs are more enough for now as my software ccompressors, unless something mind blowing comes out, i'll probably save for a UAD2 or buy a nice hardware compressor.
So this is my next software purchase i'm sure of this...

You're welcome regards the presets and manual. Thanks for supporting Cytomic in these early days.Aloysius wrote:Just wanted to say thanks for the previous 'presets' update and the basic 'users guide' (manual). Everything else I wanted. It is a fantastic acheivement for you to have brought this project to fruition. I too hope that you will be developing a host of other Cytomic VSTs in the near future.

I've got an extensive section in the faq about comparisons http://www.cytomic.com/glue#faqPandoid wrote:I got The Glue yesterday. Fantastic plugin! Thank you.
I have few querries for your comments:
1) how you would compare The Glue to SSL Series from Waves ?
2) how you would comapare The Glue to Logic builtin compressors?
and more personal:
I have only Factory Bank 1 Presets; are there some more, somewhere to download?
Thank you in advance!
Rafal Gendarz
Factory Bank 1 is the only official set of presets at the moment.

Hi KennaOkoye,KennaOkoye wrote:the only thing i dont like about the glue is how narrow the stereo image is compared to Logic, and Waves SSL
Can you please explain what you are talking about here in further detail? The Glue applies the same gain reduction to both the left and right signal so doesn't alter the stereo image. I've checked the Logic compressor and all of the presets are using "max" for the type of detection not "sum", the glue uses an analog version of a "max" function as well. Are there any settings you are using in particular?
I would really appreciate it if you have some raw audio to compress, and can provide a setting of the Logic compressor to use that exhibits what you are talking about, I can match the sound with The Glue.

I can confirm there will be some kind of dual mono support for v1.1 which will begin once I've fixed some bugs and done the win rtas version.Tp3 wrote:Hi Andy

I put together an example for people to listen to by matching the sound as best I could to the Logic VCA mode compressor:andy_cytomic wrote:Hi KennaOkoye,KennaOkoye wrote:the only thing i dont like about the glue is how narrow the stereo image is compared to Logic, and Waves SSL

The settings for The Glue are: Threshold -26 dB, Makeup 5 dB, Range Full, Attack 10 mS, Release 0.4 S, Ratio 10
I had to use medium settings for both attack and release otherwise they just sounded too different and I set the range knob on The Glue to full to make it not behave like an analog compressor as much. There is the same loop played twice each processed with one of the compressors and butted up next to each other. The question is which loop has the narrower stereo image the first or second?

These are much, MUCH closer than the previous discussion about stereo images.andy_cytomic wrote: the-glue_stereo-image1.wav
I was initially going to say that the first one seems a bit more focused, and the latter one has slightly wider ambience. I was also going to say that I kinda preferred the first one as more natural.
But further testing (using toggle button on a controller to swap at will, but randomizing the initial state of the button so I wouldn't know which one was which) seemed to indicate that I couldn't actually score significantly more than the 50% even after having made the above conclusions. Either my ears got too tired (after no more than about 2 minutes of listening to the loop) or I was just lucky to get a longish row of right answers at first.
So I'm just posting 'cos I'm bored and have nothing better to do right now.

Thanks for checking it out. Good idea regards switching the listening setup, I think the first example in listening tests has an advantage. The Glue is the second chunk of audio, and I tried to make it so I couldn't tell which was which as well.mystran wrote:These are much, MUCH closer than the previous discussion about stereo images.andy_cytomic wrote: the-glue_stereo-image1.wav

I think I know what people have been finding in doing comparisons, not that the stereo image is different, but that the compression meters show different levels. I'm pretty sure people have been over compressing with The Glue because it's showing a lower maximum compression amount because of the smoothing on the needle. To match the compression amounts I used the peak output level of the signal using the daw meters. I also had to switch off distortion in the advanced options on the Logic VCA mode compressor.
