Hi, I just wondered - will you be adding any more filter models in the future? Different models and different types?
I thought that a comb filter would be pretty cool.

@drgonzo: 1.0 Will be out this friday. So buying this at beta stage will only be for a few days
@andy: I watched your latest video and I love what you did with the new GUI. Firstly the looks, but secondly the visualisations of the envelopes, filtershapes, stepsequencer, input/levels, etc are really stunning and a very welcome addition to the current beta!
Cheers from A very happy customer!

I think "reasonable" is 1 auth per year for the life of the product, with the first 5 years of auths available straight away after purchase (ie so after 5 years you get another auth per year automatically allotted to you). This means if you have two computers and you replace each one every 2 years you are still covered and you always have one auth spare in case of emergencies. In your case, if you have four computers you want to run The Drop on then I suggest buying two licenses, since the license agreement is only for up to 2 computers. So with two licenses that is 10 auths for 4 machines, and you will not need to re-authorise with upgrades to OS or re-imaging on the same machine, it is only for clean installs where you restore your previous user account or new computers that you need to re-auth.Liero wrote:This looks like an awesome plugin and I will probably buy it.
Even though I know this won't change anything I just have to say that C/R is a big fly in my soup.
What is a "reasonable" amount of activations? I have two laptops for live performance (1 main and 1 backup) and two big desktop computers in the studio. The scenario that I lose two laptops while traveling and, say, one of my studio computers breaks in the same month is not entirely impossible. I now need three new authorisations and I'm unsure whether I can get them and how long it takes to get them. Cytomic is a single-person company, if the user is dependent on personal support, what if there's a health problem or other accident that knocks Andy out while I'm on tour?
I know these cases are very improbable, but the biggest problem is that _I worry_ about these things and _I don't like worrying about software_! It makes me angry that I have to.
Bottom line:
1) C/R is always an extra hassle for the paying user
2) C/R does not stop piracy
Ergo, don't C/R.
Anyway, cheers and congrats for The Drop - it is awesome.
In answer to your points:
1) It isn't really extra hassle, currently a customer has to log-in to the web page and download the full version of the plugin from their account. With my system you can authorise the trial version by just typing in your cytomic username and password directly in the plugin, you don't even have to visit the web page, and there is no extra installation process to worry about. I have had numerous customers having trouble with accidentally installing both the trial version and the full version at the same time on Mac (to two different folders), and only having the trial version show up (since it is found first in the plugin scan)! So it will actually prevent these types of issues and help customers. For offline situations it becomes equivalent to how it is now, you will have to visit the web page, download an auth file (instead of the full plugin) and copy that to the offline machine.
2) I am not trying to stop piracy as in cracks, I want to limit how easy it is for casual abuse by sharing a serial / plugin that can be used on any system any number of times forever more, which happens a lot with stolen credit cards / paypal logins. Having this abuse stopped helps everyone else apart from the people doing the abuse. If I can force someone to actually have to meddle with the binary to bypass my copy protection then people using cracks will have to watch out for all sorts of issues running the plugin. If more people buy Cytomic software then I also have more resources to provide better support for my customers, and also develop more and better plugins at a lower price. I can also allow educational institutions and studios to buy bulk authorisations and install the software on their machines in a secure way that is locked to each machine (so students / customers can't easily just copy a single file to pirate the software!), currently I cannot provide any of this.

Yes, you can modulate the pre or post amplitude with the envelope follower at audio rate, so you can make it into a feed forward peak level compressor very easily. The sensitivity acts as the threshold, and the depth of modulation acts as the ratio.meloco_go wrote:Andy, another thought crossed my mind -- can we link envelope follower to pre or post gain -- making possibly cool compressor out of the Drop?

Thanks! The visual feedback is very welcome to work out what is going on, and I've tried to make it as unobtrusive as possible.xiphiuz wrote:@drgonzo: 1.0 Will be out this friday. So buying this at beta stage will only be for a few days

I have already added more models to The Drop, I added the SMP, JPR, neither of which were originally planned, so you already have two extra models included straight away! (I could have held them off for an update, but decided to include them immediately). I won't add a comb filter to The Drop (comb filters are delay lines so are better suited to a delay product), and comb filters require a completely different sort of algorithm under the hood to resonant filters, so that requires a bunch more R&D to do with the quality I insist, so would be a new product.Eta Carinae wrote:Hi, I just wondered - will you be adding any more filter models in the future? The copy protection system I have made is easy to use, robust, and doesn't punish my customers. Please email me immediately if you would like a free license transfer.Selfik wrote:If I new C/R was coming no way I would purchase...
We discussed this so many times here...it does not stop piracy...why punishing your customers?

If I Install The Drop then have to reformat my windows install or buy a new drive does that mean I've used up two of my authorisations?
I will only upgrade the motherboard every four years unless I happen to install a faulty one and have to replace it so doesn't bother me if the activation is locked to the motherboard.
I once bought a game called Bioshock it was limited to five activations. I had a faulty hard drive and kept reinstalling windows and a few games then running into problems again. I finally realised it was a bad old drive so bought a new one. A week later I thought I might as well get a new motherboard and CPU as the game ran bad. After that I couldn't activate Bioshock I was locked out for good.
2kgames had to bring out a revoke tool because so many were recommending on all the forums downloading the pirate version as it didn't lock you out or give you worry that it could happen. Later they patched it out completely because it was still scaring people off buying it.
I'm reformatting again when Windows 9 comes out and I have a plan to reformat again when the 8 core I7 comes out I need a new motherboard to install it so I'm doing a reformat. At some stage after I'm reinstalling windows on a PCI-e SSD. I bet by the time the SSD goes in Windows 10 wont be far off.
I've already bought it and plan to keep it.
Have I nothing to worry about?

Anyway concerned people have a right to ask what their paying into.
I don't mind CR just the limited authorisations I only want to activate one computer but I want to be able to activate that one computer many times.

They may have a right to ASK, but there's no laws anywhere AFAIK that someone has to ANSWER.Kaboom75 wrote: Anyway concerned people have a right to ask what their paying into.
Some companies produce software as a consumable like a soda pop. You don't ask questions, you DRINK it, and if you want answers, you sumbit a specimen to a laboratory.
ftfy.
And WOW the new GUI looks amazing!

Quite frankly, the video was not as rambling as advertised. Didn't notice the "so" and "um" business either. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot. The drop looks fantastic. I love how the UI has turned out, and the sound is stellar. Fantastic work. Best part is, I get this bad boy in my hands at the end of this coming week.andy-cytomic wrote: "With The Drop v1 just about to be released I took some timeout from coding to run through a few different ways you can use it. A couple of warnings: it is rambling, I say "so" and "um" a lot, and just when I think I've covered everything I keep on thinking of more things to cover, but hopefully it will be useful anywayAlso the speakers were down at a low volume to not bleed into the mic so I mixed the bass about twice as loud as it should be."
As an aside, nice desk you have there. Comfortingly familiar.
