Wanna buy two mint Midi Timepiece AV's (parallel port)? ...at least for $350 or so, I can buy a new PCI express card that would let me use my 2408 v.1 and two 24i's...BERFAB wrote:"Fair enough, but a piece of hardware has a chance of lasting a lifetime. I've got a studio full of hardware that never gets used because it just doesn't interface well with the current technology. Technically, it all still works, but it doesn't work with anything else--at least not easily.
The same could be said for software. If I keep the original PC that I install it on running, the software will always work. It just won't work with the newer technologies that inevitably come along.

Regarding the ios version...the last iOS update would not install due to not enough room on my 8gig iPad. I had to uninstall Alchemy to do the update, then re-download it and ALL of the expansion packs. Next OS version I will likely be SOL. Not a huge deal, but I DID pay money for it. Then again, I never use it....

My understanding from other devs with "CM" branded software is that the "CM" versions are actually owned by ComputerMusic for purposes of distribution. If that's really the case, there should be no reason why Alchemy CM shouldn't continue to be distributed.Ameyah Audio wrote:im still using the player from time to time, when i dont want to use the full version, only want to use it as sample machine.
but wondering myself if the CM will be still there?

Anyone know answers to the following questions .. Is it still possible to transfer individual products to existing accounts, or does it have to be a transfer of everything in your account? Is the license transfer fee still applicable? And are libraries that were previously nfr still nfr?
Considering that none of their products will exist after July 7th, or may be rebranded in one form or another, I am not sure if the previous license transfer rules apply any longer.
Even their terms and conditions seem to have changed, and are very brief with no extra information. I don't mean this as a criticism, but under the previous conditions the license transfer rules were clearly defined and spelled out, but at the time it was also a solvent business, and therefore I think an understanding existed between CA and the customers that the products would continue to be supported, with paid or free updates. Since this may no longer be the case and the license transfer info in the faq has disappeared, I am wondering if the previous license transfer conditions are still applicable.

Not exactly. It is about the loss of an instrument which even doesn`t exist: Alchemy 2.izonin wrote:Maybe not locked but moved to some other subforum. After all the thread isn't about an instrument.

Another suggestion: We could make bets at which page the thread will be closed. What do you think? I bet it is at page 165

That will surely be dependent on the contract that CM signed with CA, i.e. if there is a takeover, that doesn't make previous agreements null and void (unless the contract contains such provisions of course).mutantdog wrote:I'm pretty sure Apple won't see it like that.

I'm pretty sure Apple's lawyers can make Alchemy CM go away if they decide to, regardless of the original contract.

What does Apple have to do with it? It will be the problem of whoever bought the company.sjm wrote:That will surely be dependent on the contract that CM signed with CA, i.e. if there is a takeover, that doesn't make previous agreements null and void (unless the contract contains such provisions of course).mutantdog wrote:I'm pretty sure Apple won't see it like that.

Alchemy 2 will provide a lot of "added value" to the iWatch.

That would be one reason, but...Mojo42 wrote:Not exactly. It is about the loss of an instrument which even doesn`t exist: Alchemy 2.izonin wrote:Maybe not locked but moved to some other subforum. After all the thread isn't about an instrument.
But to say something serious (by accident) I agree to the words of the realists here. The ones who already own Alchemy should be glad, as long as they make backups they can use it. The ones who never can buy it, are the real loser here in this case. But that`s also just life. One has to buy products as long as they are available. Nothing lasts forever. The real reason for this outrage here is that expectations hasn`t been fulfilled. The expectation of Alchemy 2 and the expectation that the Camel team are your friends. Welcome in reality. What do we learn from this: If there are no expectations, there will be no dissapointements. Just a bit chinese philosophy at the end of this ahm...........discussion?
Another suggestion: We could make bets at which page the thread will be closed. What do you think? I bet it is at page 165
As a former Alchemy user I can say that while I regret I can no longer purchase it, even if it were made available legally via another user I still wouldn't purchase it because the product is no longer supported. It is very possible that Camel Audio products may cease to work in one's favorite DAW because of some upgrade down the road... and without support to keep things working a user could be at a loss.
