Had another play with the demo. My main problem is the filter resonance at high levels can make some nasty noise at certain cutoff levels. When you max out the roland version it stays silky smooth regardless and never goes into danger territory. There is also a weird snap in the DCO-106 sometimes that doesn't sound quite right. Otherwise I think it does a pretty good job.

Can Cherry Audio add Demo to download?

Another factor is the law of diminishing returns. If you have something that sounds 60% like a Jupiter-8, then surely getting something that sounds 85% like a Jupiter-8 would make sense. However if you already have something that gets you 85% of the way, then paying e.g. $199 for something that sounds 88% like a Jupiter-8 might not make sense, especially if you're already familiar with that "85%" Jupiter-8, and you have purchased/programmed a bunch of patches for it, used it in a bunch of projects etc.Raddler1 wrote: Fri Oct 02, 2020 4:20 pm I don't get this "I got it covered thing". If someone came out with an EXACT sounding Jupiter 8 emulation, would I not buy it because I got it covered with the Arturia JP8??
I know I'm exaggerating, but I think as we progress, we need to accept that vst synths will get better and better and we may need to let go of our old ones.
Also, I'm not convinced this DCO-106 is a clear upgrade from either Diva or U-NO-LX. I think I much prefer the filter in either of those two. The cool thing about DCO-60 is that you can use it in the context of the Voltage Modular system, which lets you do some things that are not possible with a hardwired Juno emulation.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

i am still on the fence, have voltage modular, the DCO-60, in a modular environment, indeed, as mentioned, more possibilities.
i have also the arturia JUP V3, that i didn't use much, until some months ago, i found the sound that i like (make my own presets). and the bass sound (from a factory preset), by zeus! was testing it. i think need really some protection for my speakers (also for the things i myself make, especially those, they still work flawlessly, but they were abused, by accident, but still..).
it are different beasts. of course. and MPE; i you do it in VM...
it is indeed a pity that you don't get a module and vst. or the other way around. but perhaps cherry audio is testing the waters, the chimney must smoke (a dutch expression, you make a living). nothing wrong with. also not with synth itself. and certainly the price. and MPE.
why still here rambling about a vst instrument, in the voltage modular thread, me thinks, the framework is the same, and the module java(??).
o well, no probs. interesting synth quite true.
the resonance problems i did not encounter yet, didn't had much time to play with it.

I've had limited time spent messing around with the roland cloud version, but wasn't very impressed with it. It didn't sound like the Juno 106 that I own.
The DCO-106 immediately sounded like my hardware 106 from the default patch. I started playing and said "there it is!". It's missing noise, it's missing a little bit of complexity in the filter. There's a few places where envelopes of things feel a bit different. But disregarding the minutiae, the general "tone" of it sounds more accurate than all the other emulations I've tried.
With the Roland cloud I never really got that feeling. Although I didn't mess with it too long (pretty much said "meh" and decided not to get it) and haven't compared either *directly* to my hardware Juno, which is currently in storage in my attic, although I've owned it for 20 years so the memory is strong.

FM Beast #1 : Angry Babars (PSP Efemerizer PSP filters)
The first of a series of FM beasts that i want to make in Voltage Modular combining FM (PSP or Cherry Audio FM station mainly) and gritty filters (PSP, MS20, MRB LPG, Vult Tangents).
FM can sound so organic and present in Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular !
Orchestrated with the excellent Vari-Step Sequencer from Mr Tetsuo Maruyama a.k.a Marltetz.
Also, the Macro CV module from Benard is fantastic for randomizing or globally shifting parameters, in this case, the PSP Efemerizer.
I just added a kind of stupid kick to put this in rhythmic perspective.
