So no VST ? Or is there anything confirmed about features ? I assume you won't be able to attach this sequencer per Rewire to e.g. Cubase ?

I think they should allow Recycle to be used much like IL edison to record and slice, within the DAW,vs. standalone. All of the in/out of different programs is so early 2000's,simply tie recycle into the daw,and use Dr. Rex for playback.
Just my thoughts,that's all.
Oh and Rewire is boring.

I hope so. So far, I have yet to see anything that would lure me away from Ableton Live.blank/diod wrote:Yup. And that isn't the half of it.
The main unique features seem to be tight integration with Reason and a certain style of workflow, with regards to window management. Personally I prefer the workflow in Live, with the dynamic context specific lower section. The workflow of Record, judging from what I've seen on the video, seems a bit "fiddly" for my tastes, with a lot of scrolling in both up/down and left/right directions. Not to my liking, but workflow is a very subjective thing. I'm sure there are those that would prefer it to Live. Then again, I should probably reserve judgment until I get a chance to play with it.
The real deal breaker will be whether or not it will host VSTs. From what I've seen so far, this is not the case, There are a handful of VSTis that are critical to my work, and I would be lost without them. If this isn't a part of the initial release then perhaps it will show up in a future revision. That should give you guys enough time to figure out how to backpeddle on all the badmouthing that has been generated by Propellerheads representatives regarding the stability of VSTs. Strangely, I can't remember how many years it's been since I've had one crash Live.
As it stands, it looks like a very nice app that breaks very little new ground. It should be ideal for all the Reason users that lament the lack of audio recording. From what I've seen, the integration with Reason is pretty tight. It seems that Reason devices can be sequenced, recorded and used as insert/send FX within Record. I also get the impression, from comments made by the founder, that it will employ some form of timestretching. This will be sure to please many Reason users. As for how well it will be received outside of that group... we shall see.

Maybe I'm lost since I don't use Reason. If it's a great music production application (which I take it to be from the supportive comments) with great plugs etc, etc, and people who use it want to be able to record audio (and it doesn't) why didn't they just make it VSTi compatible like FL Studio?
Not to load VSTi's but to also *be* a VSTi.
With FLStudio you just load it into your host of choice as a VSTi and push 16 stereo pairs into your host mixer and viola... audio recording... well better than FL Studio has already.
Or does it do that already?
I'd be greatly surprised if a version one audio recorder like "Record" had anywhere near the editing capability of an audio host. With that said, will that be enough for Reason users, basic recording and editing? Or will they miss the more advanced editing from other hosts they used alongside Reason.
In my experience that's where most new software audio recorders initially fail, in editing.

So why were all those people going 'wow' in the video?
Did they travel to 2009 from 1985 or something? "Wow! It can record audio. On a hard disk. I can't believe it!! How are Duran Duran doing, incidentally?"

It has to do a lot more than just record and have a few editing tools like timestretching and using internal fx. Most people with Reason have a Rewire host today that can do that and a whole lot more. I couldn't imagine only having the internal fx in Reason to mangle/edit my audiofiles with. So there has to be some great innovative things in it, or it would have to be dirt cheap.

I have a feeling that lots of the people that currently use a top of the line host won't find anything new, and this is indeed really targetted those living inside the reason bubble without any contact to the outside world software-wise. Hard to say if it will stand the comparison to anything that's been on the market for a couple of years.

From the longer video that I saw, and was since made private, it seems to have some editing features. Not sure exactly what, but crossfading was mentioned. It took Live 'till version 8 to finally implement that.LawrenceF wrote:In my experience that's where most new software audio recorders initially fail, in editing.

I'm with TristezaOrange, I just don't get it. The simple ability for an app to record audio and have a mixer is hardly groundbreaking. I'm old, and Music Studio on my C-64 did it in 1985!
Reason is one of those programs that I have always wanted to love. The idea of an all in one music creation solution is a holy grail. But, Reason never has been there for me (non full screen, no audio abilities, no VSTi support). This "Record" thing is amusing, but from the info I see so far my only response is "so what".
If major producers think the ability to record audio to a hard disk is something to go "wow" over, then perhaps they (the producers) are really just marketing tools. And therefore loose all respect from me.

I think it's their first time seeing a computer.TristezaOrange wrote:So why were all those people going 'wow' in the video?Did they travel to 2009 from 1985 or something? "Wow! It can record audio. On a hard disk. I can't believe it!! How are Duran Duran doing, incidentally?"

Quick impression:
It's pretty impressive.
The rep either didnt know or wouldnt explain but it seems to have an advanced form of granular resynthesis in the stretching engine.
Very transparent - at one point he dropped it to 5bpm and there was no harmonic ringing or swishing present.
If you have reason and create a file in it - Record will open it and all Reason devices become available to you for further editing. It 'enhances" Reason so to speak.
Comp takes similar to Logics workflow, slick looking crossfade handling.
The entire thing is modeled on the idea of an SSL console. There's a new compressor and limiter available in that vein.
Also there's a Line6 modeling plug included. The only other addition is a new device called the ID8 which is a sort of Rompler for people who don't have Reason.
So three main windows which you navigate thru with F5, F6, F7. Huge mixing matrix!
I'll put up some crummy pictures soon.

I was wondering how much information I'd be able to glean out of a 1 minute 21 second video.DRS wrote:Mmm, found this shorter one:

That's a funny video teaser.
