Echoes in the Attic wrote:Speaking of audio demos, when tone2 do post some, I sure hope they're not full cheesy trance sounds. I think they overdid that a bit with gladiator at first. And so I think gladiator is underrated as an Alchemy-esque pad and texture synth, good for shimmery glassy additive type soundscapes especially.

I'm especially curious about whether Electrax is good for harder or more punchy sounds. Someone mentioned the dubstep wobble being something it does well. Looking forward to hearing that. Gladiator's no good for hard or thick sounds. Too thin. But I've Firebird is, so hopefully Electrax has got some serious balls...
Right, Gladiator2 sounds very thin. But I think Tone2 knows better with ElectraX.At least I hope they do.

To be fair there's no point in bickering here.. i think most people just wanted to hear at least an audio demo along with the main advert that they were releasing a synth *Tone2* that is :)
The beta testers/sound programmers obviously have no right to provide us with them unless the above mentioned company gives them permission to do so,otherwise there's no point in slating the guys who helped out with programming the synth as theyr'e just pointing out what it does, feature wise.
So let's all just calm down a bit eh?
Its' like any synth..some will like it and some won't its' no big deal really.

For those who still want to bicker *Go and have a f**king word with yourselves someplace quiet* :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

@Tone2

Could you provide us with a short audio demo preferably showing single/layered presets and the filters,it would help in considerably in deciding whether or not a purchase is imminent.. in my case anyways.

Thanks

Rob

No audio demos = your undies remain in a twist for a more prolonged period of time = you can feel a heightening of the hype as never before. ;)

Enjoy the tension.....before the release!

4.) CPU load? I use a Q6600 for audio; will I need a faster computer to run ExtraX?

I have used ElectraX on my Core 2 Duo laptop running two cores at 1.8Ghz, and I was able to have all four layers, multiple filters, lots of modulation, plus effects without breaking a sweat. I haven't done any proper CPU tests, but my overview of the CPU performance was very positive, considering how much sound can pour out of this synth.
Are envelopes as snappy as in Largo, ACE or Massive?(In Gladiator2 they wasn't)
Are decay and release tails audibly gated?(which could be bad)

I'm really hard customer, so that is why for me there are only three good quality synths in the market: Waldorf Largo, NI Massive, U-he ACE, regarding audio quality(not only features).

15 pages and literally all the info was already in the first post...
So basically, they found out how to get a free ad on kvr!

I will only say this; no audio demos means they have nothing special to show off... Just building hype. My guess is, it's basically gladiator + few features existing gladiator users paid for but never received.
Of course I say this without ever hearing this synth, but we'll see how right I was when we reach page 50 and the synth is finally released and everyone moves on (besides those two tards arguing over layers for the last 12 pages).

Whad'you expect? Nobody but the beta team has used it - they all rave (as they always do and should). Lots of talk, speculation, nit-picking (guilty), and over-reaching in both directions. (like your comment that it's only Gladiator in a pretty dress with more make-up :hihi:)

Everything is running along as it should ;)

Be patient guys. This post is just to introduce ElectraX and let people know this baby will be soon available. Audio demos and further details will be available soon.

Concerning the synth itself, no... it's not Gladiator with extra features. The two synths do not share the same concept. This is a different synth with a lot of hidden power. What surprised me in the beta testing / sound design stage has been how easy is to use this instrument and achieve the sound you are looking for. Just like I said before it's suitable for a lot of genres... I've designed patches for trance/disco music but also cinematic and ambient sounds (the new fractal synthesis it's really interesting: I've used it to program huge cinematic percussions).

And... that's all, for now... :hihi:

You forgot Fxpansion D-CAM! Well imho that and Ace are the best at the moment for pure sound .. Ah, how could I forget Xils PolyKB, that's awsum too .. I wonder if this new Tone2 synth will feature some nice oversampling options?

Shocking impatience in this thread right now, even for KVR.

You do realize this thread was first posted just yesterday, as was the announcement?

The feature set suggests it's aimed right at Camel Audio Alchemy. Which is my fav synth of the moment.

I wonder how they'll compare.

No doubt it will still be quite different. Just from the layout I can tell it's a much leaner synth, similar to gladiator. I like that about it, complex digital soundsources but without a thousand controls, just the right amount. Alchemy on the other hand is not exactly lean. It's the "Do everything imaginable with resynthesis and modulate anything a throusand times and modulate the modulators a thousand more times" synth. Alchemy just gives so much detail as well in the additive and other resynthesis functions, not to mention all the types of morphing and mod types, alot of which you don't need for 90% of sounds, but gives it immense power. ElectraX looks like a pleasure to program because I bet it has almost no learning curve (routing like a standard but full featured synth), yet plenty of sounds to discover. That's my guess.

I also find the actual sound of Alchemy and Gladiator to be extremely different, so I imagine ElectraX will have a very different sound as well. Certain things in Gladiator I definitely prefer, like the filters and the saturation/overdrive. I'm betting ElectraX will have excellent filters and overdrive as well. They do good effects and signal processing those Tone2 guys. Too bad their warmverb has always been crippled on a mac with some kind of cpu bug, taking uphalf a processor's cpu! (At least last time I checked and I heard it was still the same).

That's right. At least that's how I found this synth. It is really easy to use for the power available under the hood. An example of a cool design, which saves space is the PW knob. It acts differently depending on the oscillator mode selected. So in VA type oscillator, it may control pulse width, which is to be expected, but also the balance between dual wave oscillators, like sawtooth+square.
However, select a wavetable oscillator, and the PW knob will scan through the harmonic content. Extra cool! Assign this to an LFO with a slow rate, apply some delay = cascading tapestry. So just with three parameters, PW + LFO + Delay you can get a rich mosaic. So forget those layers. One osc will do in most cases ! But the beauty is, once you process the wavetable and end up with a very digital sound, you just click Layer 2, select the unison pulse osc, as an example, lower the cutoff and the sound becomes very rich, warm, and yet with that sweet sweeping digital wavetable sound.

I'm really looking forward to the demo for this baby! I love the layout (and the look. which I think is really cool!). The ideas of integrating these synthesis techniques across 4 "oscillators" (more like ADVANCED COMPLEX oscillators :hihi:) and being able to directly mix these with the filters (which are surely the FilterBank3 guys, which I have and love).

A standalone version for Mac would be nice but is not necessary to me.

Onward to the demo release!!! :D

this is obviously not just 'Gladiator 2'....
i eagerly anticipate demos.
features sure are swell.
