According to her Leno interview, she was given another song first and turned it down. She accepted this one because it was upbeat and had a positive tone or something like that.

good for her! I just didn't like the cookie cutter every single "trick in the book" style. Got nothing against her, sorry if my comments came across that way.

Well, I could only get through 3/4 of one listening of Friday, so maybe it's better than I remember. But my vague recollection of it was that it was just, I don't know, just...just...you know, really bad.

actually, I read she rejected the other song because the subject was "adult love", a subject she had no experience with. it's possible it was a much better song...
