DP!!!! YES!!! for anything to picture, DP is the shiznit. i LOVE that program!

Also, to clear up some apparent confusion insofar as reaper's "unlimited" demo:
the features aren't limited. it is fully functional.
it's limited in terms of time. legally, you're good for 30 days, after which you should purchase it. if you don't, it will continue to work. many users (myself included) have "gone over" the 30 days  , but nevertheless, did buy a license. "user guilt" and a strange positive peer pressure sort of thing helps. that sort of strategy seems to work for cockos, anyway.

Did like the guy above said, went past my 30 days and realized that I was still using reaper, and loving it so I purchased a license. The license are an extremely good deal imo. The program is easily worth more then that and in my personal opinion Reaper may be the most powerful daw out of any of them. I literally customized every aspect of the program so that all the parts I liked about flstudio were part of reaper, all the parts of sonar, and then I even customized it further to make those features more powerful and intuitive for me....All in all great product and super stable. Im very satisfied.

I did like HIbidy and tried it 4 times and the first 3 times (for some reason the interface kept calling to me) I just couldn't get the hang of the sotware....and then I got some hardware synths and flstudio just wasn't cutting it for me anymore so I moved to sonar x1. Loved X1's interface and workflow, but the damn thing was way too unstable for me....10 crashes in 20 minutes is pretty unacceptable. I was never able to write a track longer then 30 seconds in that thing. Finally didn't know where else to go, was going to go for Studio One but the interface was just ugly to me. Saw the Rado v4 theme on reaper stash and decided to give it one more go and I was sold. Set up all my equipment in that in one day. The same set up took me weeks in Sonar. I was sold.

I can definitely see why so many people would flock to Reaper, but I don't have room for my keyboard right now (not to mention I'm no good playing live), so I needed sequencing like ACID Pro 7 had, and the closest that I could find at the time was Cubase. :)

Now I absolutely love it and am not going anywhere. :D

At least we're in second place. :P Oh, it's not a competition? My bad. ;)

I've already tried Reaper. It has a long way to go.

Meanwhile I'm happy to be in the (unmentioned, unpolled) silent minority using Samplitude (the new 64-bit version ProX is due for U.S. release any day now).

Just out of curiosity and for my own knowledge (as I'm new to reaper), how so?

Post

I started using Cubase SE3 around 2005, then upgraded to Cubase Essential 4, then Cubase 4 and 5 in succession. With Cubase 6 bringing very little to the table (yet again NO changes to that archaic window system that belongs in the 90's) I feel now that I want to get off the Cubase upgrade bandwagon. I suppose I could stay with Cubase 5 as it does what I need (and a lot more that I don't need) but always at the back of my mind I felt that I would rather support the progressive business/update model of CockOS and Reaper.

I have actually bought Reaper 3 times in the past couple of years including my 3rd license purchase just last night. I think the main reason I didn't make the switch sooner was my attitude towards learning a new sequencer all over again. But having fiddled around with Reaper so many times the past couple of years a few things have actually stuck so my switch will go a lot smoother now than it might have before. :hihi:

Anyone interested in Cubase 5 drop me a PM. I'll put something in the marketplace soon enough or else I will sell it locally.

Would you mind elaborating. Serious question. I'm very curious about how you did this and what it is about Reaper that allows you to do this.

I'm a long time Live user and I use Fl Studio vst for the piano roll. I've been a little dissatisfied with Live lately and I can't help but notice that Reaper is starting to look very appetizing.

So, for example, if one wants to incorporate some of the cooler features of the piano roll in Fl studio to match the real-time modulation recording abilities of Live, how is this accomplished.

I'd hate to start that DAW learning curve again, but Reaper is starting to really peak my interest.

wait... what?
Cubase 6 actually brought a LOT to the table compared to Cubase 5!

I'm curious, so besides the dockable windows what can you do in Reaper that you can't do in Cubase?

Reaper is a really really cool DAW.

I almost bought it but Steinberg has a special deal where you can upgrade really old versions of Cubase 1/2/3 sx, sl, se or the AI/LE versions to Cubase 6 for only $300 Dollars. I believe the special is still on.

I couldn't resist, I just love the way Cubase feels.

I'd rather pay 60 bucks to join this cult than be a bitter jealous anti-fun cousin of debbie downer :P

being some weird obscure cult seemed to work out okay for christians in the long run...but reaper is cheaper, and historically speaking, much less bloody.
