Not to get all "dongle argument" but I have a serious question to anyone who knows. Are there more "cracked" versions of DP and logic and SN'ed hosts that protools or cubey? I know that for a long time cubey didn't have much of an issue there but I don't really keep up with that anymore.

As far as I know Cubase, Reason, and PT are practically at the stage of being uncrackable at the moment.

Ah. Then that's good.

I just don't see the flood of DP and logic crackheads so didn't know. Those are currently just SN right?

Don't know the DP and Logic situation, but as far as I know Apple dropped copy protection for Logic.

Having Logic as a download in the app store is actually a brilliant way to keep away cracks.

Oh yeah, they dropped the dongle a long time ago. Of course not until after I stopped using it

Back to DP, keeping interest, wondering what is taking so long. As I've said a dozen times or so it's hard to believe that they had a working product at winter namm and we've heard nothing.

DP8 was supposed to be released in Spring !

Well... It's MOTU. They could say we meant Spring of 2013 (haha).

From my understanding and it's total speculation......

Mountain Lion requires a different SDK than previous OS requirements,from what I've heard ML has thrown a curve ball to many developers.
I do beta testing for another developer and they had to change a bunch of things to get ready for ML.
Additionally with the introduction of DP for Windows as it's a totally new platform there might be unforeseen complications that makes this a bit more time consuming to get right.
If I was running MOTU I'd want to make sure the 1st cross platform 64bit capable release was awesome from the get go.
I'd rather wait a month or 2 for a great DP8.

Who actually wants a half baked release that's rushed to market and is not ready for prime time?
I suspect there will be many early adapters of ML that will be whining that various apps don't work initially so I suspect MOTU might be waiting to make sure everything works well initially.
1st impressions of a release of this magnitude can make a huge difference in the perception of a new product in the market.
Realize the NAMM demo was DP8 by itself,with the release of ML, supposedly in the next week or 2 there might be more complications with compatibility than anyone anticipated in January.
Again this is all speculation.
Time will tell..........

So would I. Their past releases were always pretty solid, but then... they know Mac OS inside out. Windows is a completely different story - it's much more open, there are way more variables to take account with (third party hardware, with their own drivers, VST support which they dropped on the Mac version since AU appeared, etc. But I have great hopes regarding DP in Windows.

Yep, the rules are simple.
1. DP rules.
2. If DP does not rule, see 1.
3. You will be given a verdict, if you use a cracked version or not. Whether they do mind reading or use an FBI database I don't know. Your opinion on this does not count anyway.
4. Have the manual handy, your question may be answered just with a page number.
5. Whining is permitted (in the special section), criticism is not.
6. The DAW "knowledge" is essentially the interpretation and re-interpretation of the (very good) manual.
7. If it's not in the manual, don't even ask.
Other than that it is just the chit-chat of the "inner circle" (you will recognize them if you spend long enough time in the forum).

P.S. Don't forget to repair permissions every time DP crashes. It's your fault.

I try to imagine a DAW release that works right out of the box for everyone; I really do try. I close my eyes and imagine working on a piece from start to finish, uninterrupted by technical issues, perfect MIDI timing, transparent copy protection, cats & dogs living together, the lion laying down with the lamb, the world's wealthy elite renouncing avarice, no wars, no famine, the easter bunny...

I can dream the impassible dream.

I really am looking forward to the feedback from the early x64 adopters of DP on Win7.
