And these are the places where Reaper does shine.

I don't think anyone here who is critical of Reaper is saying that it's not powerful or flexible or a great program. Not at all. Just that it's not a host that can do everything that everyone needs in the way they want to do it. That's all.

My host is better than your host

i will say its midi seems to be more "faithful" than other hosts. no stuck notes, nothing behaving weird in timing and response.

it just behaves very pure and natural.

and you gotta really trust your daw to take it live in front of thousands, right?

some of those examples im playing diva, wivi, kontakt and more all at once at a 96 samples buffer, along with reverberate64 and a lot of other plugins.

i like the macro system a lot too, and the users on their forum hipped me how to make key commands to switch almost anything on the fly with one press.

i agree tho, no program is going to do everything for everyone.

But is any host?

I'm sorry, but I've seen your posts which at times seem like you're doing a balancing act, but in the end it kind of comes back to that, which is... Is there really any host out there which "does everything that everyone needs in the way they want to do it?" Dare I say anyone?

Some people are just enthusiastic about what they use (and I think we see that with all DAWs people choose). I say let them have their say so long as they're not factually wrong (and if they are wrong, there's plenty of people here to correct them). I think the more subjective interpretation of what each program can or can't do for a user will probably be taken as a such and can be safely valued as a person's opinion.

Tony did a good job of showing off how stable Reaper is with a huge memory load. That was very impressive, and surely with the recording functions can work well as a full band gig kinda thing on a faster workstation.

Reaper is ugly :P Well, good enough for casual sex, but not someone you'd want to marry ;) :D

Post

Cubase and Ableton are uglier. :)

I'm an admitted DAW/host/sequencer slut. I've married me quite a harem of apps, as none has insisted on exclusivity. Some may be uglier than others, but on the other side of my screen, nobody seems to hear that. ;)

Cubase is beautiful. :P

To each their own, but to me it isn't. :)

Yep. You got a point with Ableton being ugly though. :D

Nope, and I never claimed that any did. I'm only addressing the claims by people that Reaper can be adjusted to do whatever you want, and be whatever workflow you want. It can't. Neither can any other host.

Nope, and again, I never made that claim. No balancing act. I use Reaper. I like Reaper. Not that it matters though.
Some people are just enthusiastic about what they use (and I think we see that with all DAWs people choose). Of course it's all opinion. And this is all just discussion. For the opinions offered, I like to offer my view on it. Of course, opinions can often be stated as facts, such as the kind of posts which I was referring to in the first place. Post like, "I don't know why people complain about Reaper not being as good as their current host, because you can make it work however you want!". That's not accurate. So I reply, as do others.

But in the end, of course no host can do everything. I don't think that I or any others who are critical of Reaper have said that any of them could.

Anybody in the DAW business, with ambition, would wisely reject the effort
of one single competitor to control a standard. Especially when re-writing
your product to meet that standard, is a game out of your control.
If vst3 was accepted industry wide, Steinberg could keep competitors in constant flux, by constantly modifying VST 'just enough' to keep competitors
focussed on implementing the standard,
rather than perfecting their DAW. Game on! 8)
This makes no sense. If the VAT3 API was changed to the point that DAW platforms had to update, then plug-ins would need to be updated as well, which defeats the purpose of any sort of standard. Remember that Steinberg needs plug-ins developed to VST3 to work with Cubendo.
