these are some amazing entries :o

no wonder it will take so long to judge the entries.. (imo) all 4 posted so far are really good.

my question though (for dystonia) is where did you get the snare drum sounds and the brass(?) in the background in your annihilist entry? :?:

I think snare is something I was missing in my own entry because of the contest rules..

this is certainly no claim to greatness, but at least i finished something. i haven't actually finished a track for longer than i can remember.

here you go:

just wanted to say the 4 already submitted tracks are ALL REALLY good indeed

that will make it very difficult to stand out but, on the other hand, my iTunes lib now has 4 new very very interesting tracks.

kudos!

All names changed, happy now? ( ;) )

In a bit it will be announced who made it through round 1... The second round is sadly going to have to wait until the end of August :( Most of the members (me included) are going on a vacation and everyone needs to be present for the judging...

But no worries, I'll mail everyone who entered the competition with more information once we're through round 1 (which should be this week)

thanks for the name change

These entries do sound really good! If they're all of this quality I can see why we're going to have to wait...

Snare is raw data, trimmed short, faded, run through H20 for snap, then through Supaphaser for width.

The background droning sounds were the easiest. It's just that FM-ish buzzing sound from one of the raw files run straight through Scrubby, Transverb and Ambience. It played itself.

The kicks are all One Ping Only, which is the only instrument used.

I actually prefer working with limitations like this.
Apart from the time limit anyway!

Next time we should be limited to one plugin!

Next time will probably be a remix-a-famous-artist-song-with-our-plugins, most likely. A bit 'boring', but it'll attract more "regular" people ;)

Why would you want "regular" people when you can have freaks like us?

Thanks again for the contest. I'm just starting with digital music production, so this was a great way to figure things out. I just wish I could use more of your plug-ins.

Here's my track:

This is all raw - no instruments used at all.

There are production details on the site: http://www.maia-arts.com/music/ (http://www.maia-arts.com/music/)

Thanks - Eric

that is awesome.. it sounds JUST like a sampled snare drum hit to me.. so much that last night I was going through the SMEX pages looking for the drummachine plugin I must have missed! Also, the background droning sound is.. wow.. its almost as if this song wanted to be created.. as if it had a life of itself. Great job, really I mean it. :!: :!: :)

Thanks very much VitaminD. Though with Scrubby (which does have a life of its own and always seems to hit the random notes in exactly the right way) I can't really take credit for the drony bits.
