entire re-write of the plugin + added AAX
+ VST3 + huge number of DSP and stability fixes.

It took longer for us to bring Sandman 1.0 up to PA's testing standards than it took for us to make 1.0 itself. We pretty much spent April-September doing nothing but updating and fixing both plug-ins. We now have a very stable platform for our next set of plug-ins. We also have more developers on the team, etc.

Ubermod and Sandman only have in common that they're delay-based effects, other than that they couldn't be more different.

Well, that is kind of similar, that they are both delay plugs

In addition to being delay, they can both be used to mangle sound.

I think there are plugs that are more different out there. It's not like one is a synth, and the other an effect

I hope that adding a different plug format doesn't add to the cost.

I don't use Pro Tools so to pay more for AAX support is money out the window for me

Well, okay, they both started out as delays, but Ubermod took a left, met some other delaylines and a diffuser and together they went on into chorus and reverb universe. Sandman took a right, met a though dude that would freeze his brain, and they went into some trippy, glitchy universe.

OK, then I'm with you :)

So Sandman apart from being a delay, would go in the direction of something like Frostbite?

Already mentioned.

$29 this weekend, I am very tempted, that freeze/granular function as shown in the youtube vids is way cool

Imho, it's definitely worth that price. There is going to be some overlap in functionality among any number of plugin "types", and the same is true here. I like that it's quick and clean. It's easy enough to get into interesting sonic territory without an hour of study. The same holds true for G8.

well worth it. very fun and creative plug in and i think it'll get more fun as they update/add features to it. more modulation etc.

it's a must have imo.

Much appreciated! The design was really focused on immediacy, based on my work with Eurorack and guitar pedals. The sound and purpose of Sandman was based on TipTop Audio's Z-DSP, which is a multi-FX unit with a CLOCK input for controlling the sampling rate. I hadn't heard anything quite like it in software, and I found myself using it on many recordings.

The initial prototype was literally a Delay Time knob, a Sampling Rate knob, and the Sleep button, as I put it together mainly for my own use. I slowly added features as I needed them. In other words, it was really designed around the core functionality instead of rolling in features from every delay on the market (U-he's MFM2, FXPansion's Bloom, d16's Sigmund, and Fabfilter's Timeless are more kitchen sink delays. They're all excellent, and I didn't want to compete with those).

I'm putting the final touches on a really, really fun Frequency Shifter. If all goes well (and we meet all of our deadlines  ), it should be out in early April.

Still true no demo? Seems like something right up my ally, but I've got a lot of cool delays so a demo might help me decide...

ValhallaÜberMod started off as ValhallaChorus. The low level C++ files are still called "ValhallaChorus." The delay abilities came later in the dev process.

I REALLY like the Sandman GUI, BTW. :D

Plugin Alliance has free 30-day demos on everything. Let me know if you have trouble getting that set up.

Well you can demo PA plugins for 2 weeks. I'm not a huge fan of time-limited demos. When you're not a full-timer with music, it usually expires before you can really test them. At least that's how it works out for me.
