I remember reading somewhere that you can demo it on computers at retailers who have Spectrasonics products too. Btw, you can add Solar Fields to the artists using Omnisphere too. At least he used it on one album as far as i read.

i would not spend $500 on Omni to make EDM... especially... when there is Reason 8 for $379...

For me Omni turned out to be one of my favorite synths for many reasons and worth the money.

You should watch some of the videos demonstrating Omnisphere and check it out in a local store before making your own decision.

Yes, but don't be surprised if they have it running on a MAC with a two core i5 with 4GB ram and they have to search for their iLok (which is for their whole system - Spectra products don't require iLok).

And it would sure be nice if they would have a copy of Trilian on it too, but so far, I haven't found any that do.

until my computer went down last year, i was running omni on a late 2006 2.33, dual core macbook pro, with 3gig of old, slow ram. i could have shown you around the instrument with no real issues :dhrug:

That would have been nice. I do think much of their problem is also that it's painfully obvious that few in those stores know really anything about Omni or their computers that appear to not be regularly maintained as most of us do. It starts working slow or having other problems, they just turn it off and hope no one will ask them about it.

I don't think most of the naysayers here are deliberately trolling, but what is clear is that most of them have absolutely no idea at all at the depth and workings of the instrument.

I upgraded from Atmosphere to Omnisphere when it first came out. So the sticker shock was some what mitigated. I am glad I did as I use Omnisphere often and even though I have had it since it since it was first introduced I am still finding things about it that surprise me. I also own Trilian whose sounds can be incorporated into Omnisphere as are the original Atmosphere patches. Plus there are a couple of add-on sound banks from Spectrasonics (Moog Tribute and VIP collection) as well as others (Plug-In Guru has some great patches) that really give the composer a lot of sonic options and is really great for patch creation and patch tweaking.

As with any synth it is a matter of taste. But I find Omnisphere quite tasty.

I can understand all the silly arguing in threads about latest Slate product, or copy protections, but arguing about Omnisphere vs other synths is ridiculous.

I don't own it and yet even through the videos/songs I can hear the massive difference (not necessarily meaning 'better', just 'different') as compared to many other synths and it is obviously well made product with certain market in mind. I presume whoever would like to do things quickly and efficiently would go for it.

Unfortunately, I e-hate Spectrasonics/Omnisphere for reasons unrelated to sound. There are no Spectrasonics distributors in my country of residence, and since Spectrasonics still seems to live in nineties and don't do downloadable products, my only option would be importing a box from other country and paying customs tax/etc on top of it. In year 2014. It's ridiculous, and that is my issue with Omnisphere

I wanted to get it for my wife, who absolutely doesn't care about any of my technical obsessions and graphs and meters and shit, she just wants the best sounding instruments for type of music she makes. So after trying to get her to use things like Blue II and Dune 2 (and other assorted things like Z3TA+2, AAS synths, etc) I gave up and got her a Sample Logic IMPAKT which she loved and immediately started using. She gets really good sounds, out of that thing, immediately. She doesn't care about tweaking things.

Different things for different people

It's really pointless debating any technical aspects when those don't matter to people using the actual product. Omnisphere would certainly be worth $500 to my wife. It would never be worth $500 to me. Then again, she makes good music, I do f**k all

P.S: Screw you Spectrasonics for not having a downloadable product

Omnisphere - worth $500?
