Not sure what I'm supposed to do with the skin files. Just .zip the folder and upload here? or?

See I told you guys.....have patience.Echoes in the Attic wrote:Hey now we're getting somewhere!
I've heard back from three skinners who have promised to at least look into skinning Poly-Ana and time permitting do a new skin. So I think we'll see several new skins but it's going to take time.......

Obviously this will no longer be supported starting with the current Beta 5.rasmusklump wrote:I think the keyboard section is wasted space. Who does play a softsynth with the mose....

Yes. The one i just posted has a bigger height than default to re-add the keyboard. Bigger width should be possible too.Nielzie wrote:Is it possible to make a skin that is wider and less high than the default?
To prevent an error message you have to be sure not to place any GUI elements out of the visible range (out of the borders of the background image).

I think I might be the only person who really likes the AQ gui for PolyAna - & I don't even own it! In the end the sound was the reason I passed it by - not that it's bad, I think it's great, but just found things I preferred at the time.
But there's something about endless racks of barely identifiable klnobs and switches that I find kinda...romantic. In a synth-nostalgia / learn-by-messing-with-it kinda way.
Takes me back to the first hands-on experience of synths, before I knew what everything meant and could program them in a planned and intentional way. Was fun!

I just .zipped everything up into 3 skins folders, and I included all the .photoshop files and knobman files in the link ahead
I didn't do this for the license as much as a much needed design distraction from my usual stuff. Great and fun challenge but I'm not sure if I'll have anymore time to work on this sans skinning the next (or maybe final) layout you guys do for this (once the dead space is figured out/layout is perfect/let me know I'll do a final run through
Simply unzip - place the skin folders in the correct file path with your other skin folder (not in your vst folder - in ProgramFiles/Admiral Quality/..), and whatever folder you name 'skin' will be the live version. Currently the white/light version is the default.
Here's all three again:

I didn't touch the xml file, only graphical changes. The top right switches could be moved inwards a bit and some of the other elements could be tweaked but I'll that up to you guys from here. Also pardon the messy photoshop files for the backgrounds, this was a bit of a bitch to work with sans redoing all the labels so you might have to hide/unhide layers to see what's going on...
All the best and overall great job on the plugin!! I hope other designers also pitch in so you guys have a ton to offer your users (will be doing this for our daw too).
**Re the 'keyboards on screen are useless' comment above: Maybe have a switch to pop the bottom in/out. I personally enjoy having an on screen keyboard, quick access with mouse if I'm already using it and in motion, and I can see the keys play back (actually not sure on this vst but in most) my arrangements and can spot errors easier.
Hope you guys enjoy!
Norb.

I think you're earlier one was a lot better. You shouldn't break apart the oscillator and mod mixer sections. For example the amout knob for the first modulator is on the other side of a section line which doesn't make sense. And it's cleaner with the osc sections not split apart. And the shadows in the sections don't look right. The original dark shading looked good, would be great as as the same hue.Norbz wrote:Here's another version. Looks nice when it's loaded in the daw and you move controls/change switches..
I'm going to wait until the widescreen version of the VST is released and I'll give that one another treatment utilizing some of these elements and do light vs dark versions for you guys too.

Hey Teksonik - You should grab the small knobs from Norbz and the 2 way/three way switches too. And see how he put the osc mod labels at the sides rather than upper corners? That's what I was talking about (Dest Mod/Waveform mod etc.). These would look good with yours.

I see what you're saying about the labels and like I said before was able to move them in a work in progress version it's just a matter of having enough time to finish it now.......

Go for it - all the elements here are made for this from scratch (the photoshop files for the switches are there too if you need to alter them) and a few elements are from past projects. Have at it.Teksonik wrote: Well I don't know how Norbz would feel about me stealing err I mean borrowing his knobs.........![]()

I just found how to add labels/scales in Knobman but this would only make sense if ALL knobs would need the same label which is not the case. Currently it does not seem to be possible to use multiple files for similar knobs (e.g. there is only one "Big knob" file).
Theorectically it is maybe posible to "register" new file names to the XML file to e.g. use multiple versions of a "Big knob".

This is a huge improvement over AQ's IMO. I like this version more than the one with the shadows between modules.Norbz wrote:Had fun with this - here's my first contribution.
