I've just finished a mix of my entry, but I'm having second thoughts... It really is turning into an Ambivalent Soundscape! The vocals are too loud and awful, the Juno is too distorty, the bass has random little beeps and blips when it should be grooving, and the drums... Well, the drums are the only part that's working (to me) but when it goes up that's what will get the most criticism. On the other hand, there's a certain freshness in this I like - warts and all. I just don't think it will translate.
Besides, I feel I need to try a lot harder when I hear stuff like the songs by Spyro and Lady J. I haven't heard Dave Spiers yet, but I remember that Metheny piece he did a year ago...

Hmmm, well I haven't got lyrics for me new R&B tune yet. I was going to do it about Britney Spears, but it might end up being about a different Spiers.....

superb!
I think I've just about got my track done. And guess what? It's a very trad jazz piece. Sort of. Until I sing on it. Right now, it sounds like something Brubeck would have done--or Brubeck playing with Vince Guaraldi's band. Of course, Dave Brubeck didn't have the luxury [or handicap] of quantizing and overdubbing, but that's why he was famous and I'm just... plunge.

Hey FreezeStar ad Duncanparsons!
Thanks for the nice reviews.
As for the compressed sounding drums - I did not compress them but I I overdid it a bit with Firium EQ which was running over the entire mix and was automated to change with each section. As I relied I must have lost some sonic perspective after a few hours. Listeing a few days after submitting it confirms the fact. My ears must of been a litle fatigued.
BTW my file is properly tagged right?
Cheers,
Gordon

Well, man I just passed counterpoint which was my biggest nightmare, thanks god I dont have to deal with subjects, countersubjects and
strettos
anymore.
Also finished my orch final work and Im rushing now doing the demo sequence in Tracktion. And I have to finally write the damn thesis. god...this never ends hehehe.
On the other side, Im really busy making the live sessions and there were some gigs, but a lot more is coming, just met the right ppl finally to start playing on a good pub. I was really depressed until yesterday, I thought nobody here was interested on my stuff.
thats all I guess... how about you mate?
thanks for asking
